Mervyn Blake
Mervyn Alexander Clifford Blake, (30 November 1907 – 9 October 2003) was a Canadian stage actor. Blake was born in Dehradun India, where his father worked as a railway executive. After his family returned to England, he fell in love with theatre and attended London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1933. He made his professional theatre debut in 1933 at the Embassy Theatre in London. At the start of World War II, he joined the British Army as a driver, and was present at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp liberation in April 1945, an experience which haunted him for the rest of his life. After the War, he was an acting company member at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon from 1952 to 1955. Michael Redgrave
Sir Michael Scudamore Redgrave CBE (20 March 1908 – 21 March 1985) was an English stage and film actor, director, manager and author. He received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in ''Mourning Becomes Electra'' (1947), as well as two BAFTA nominations for Best British Actor for his performances in ''The Night My Number Came Up'' (1955) and ''Time Without Pity'' (1957). At the 4th Cannes Film Festival, he won Best Actor for his performance in '' The Browning Version'' (1951). Youth and education Redgrave was born in Bristol, England, the son of actress Margaret Scudamore and the silent film actor Roy Redgrave. Powys Thomas (25 December 1925 – 22 June 1977) was a British-born actor who played an important role in the development of theatre in Canada. History He was born in Wales in December 1925. His early education was at Rendcomb College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire. He was known there as Willie. He was a leading light in the school's many theatrical ventures. He left Rendcomb in 1944 with a history scholarship to Queens' College, Cambridge. Soon thereafter he was called up as a Bevin Boy (coal miner apprentice) to serve as a coal miner in Wales for the duration of World War II. He studied at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon from 1951 to 1956. Thomas came to Canada in 1956 and worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Tony Van Bridge
Valentine Anthony Neil "Tony Van" Bridge CM (28 May 1917 – 20 December 2004) was a British television and theatre actor and director. Early life Bridge was born in London and first appeared as a child actor at the age of ten, and enrolled aged 19 at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He married Kippe Cammaerts just before World War II. They had two children, Pieter and Michael. While he was away during World War II, his wife met Jack Morpurgo and started a relationship with him. Bridge returned to England in 1946 and shortly thereafter decided to emigrate to Canada. Bridge had three further children in Canada – Shona Bridge, David Cheyne and Peter Cheyne. Career Bridge worked for 15 years with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, and 30 years with the Shaw Festival. He was interim artistic director at Shaw for the 1974–75 season.
