Geraldton is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. Geraldton was one of the original 30 seats contested at the 1890 colonial election. The district is based on the eponymous regional city. Labor held throughout most of the twentieth century, Geraldton has since become a seat that has changed hands regularly in the last two decades. Geography The district has always been based on the regional coastal city of Geraldton. Electoral reform ahead of the 2008 state election necessitated an increase in the district's enrolment and thus an expansion of its boundaries, as it did for all non-metropolitan districts. The Division of Durack is an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Western Australia. History The Division is named after the pioneering Durack family, upon whom Dame Mary Durack based her popular historical novels. Created to replace parts of the divisions of Kalgoorlie (which was abolished) and O'Connor, it elected its first member at the 2010 election. It was created as a comfortably safe Liberal seat. Narngulu, Western Australia
Narngulu is an outer suburb of the Western Australian city of Geraldton, and is for the most part an industrial area. History In the 1890s the town was known as Mullewa Junction as it was where the Cue railway line met the Midland railway line, and the name was gazetted in 1903. By 1905, the town was starting to become confused with Mullewa further east, and the Commissioner of Railways asked for the town to be renamed. The name Crowther, after a local merchant, was objected to by the Postmaster-General's Department, as there was a town named Crowther between Cowra and Young in New South Wales. The name Narngulu, meaning "to remember" in a local Aboriginal dialect, was chosen in 1906. Greenough Regional Prison open here in 1984. The City of Greater Geraldton is a local government area in the Mid West region of Western Australia, north of the state capital, Perth on the Indian Ocean. It was established on 1 July 2011 following the amalgamation of the Shire of Mullewa and the City of Geraldton-Greenough, itself a product of a 2007 amalgamation between the City of Geraldton and Shire of Greenough.
