Merritt E. Callaghan Intermediate
Merritt E. Callaghan Intermediate School is an intermediate school providing education for 7th to 9th grade students in the Tignish, Alberton, St. Louis, and Miminegash areas of western Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is part of the Public Schools Branch of PEI. The school is named after the late Merritt Edwin Callaghan, a former educator. History In 1976, Merritt Callaghan School was built at the expense of discontinuing more localized intermediate education that was taking place at Tignish Intermediate, St. Edward Intermediate, Alberton Intermediate, and other schools. Route 2 (Prince Edward Island)
Route 2, also known as Veterans Memorial Highway and the All Weather Highway, is a two-lane uncontrolled access highway traversing Prince Edward Island, Canada from Tignish to Souris. Route 2 was recognized as the first numbered highway in the province in 1890, when it opened between Charlottetown and Summerside. It passes through the cities of Summerside and Charlottetown and roughly parallels the former primary railway line through the province, which was abandoned in 1989. The highway was first paved in the 1950s with many upgrades in recent decades. A perimeter arterial highway (ring road) across the northern and eastern part of Charlottetown was constructed as part of Route 2 in the 1990s with funding from a $200 million federal adjustment fund for road construction after the railway was abandoned. The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is a public university in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the only university in the province. Prince County is located in western Prince Edward Island, Canada. The county's defining geographic feature is Malpeque Bay, a sub-basin of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, which creates the narrowest portion of Prince Edward Island's landmass, an isthmus upon which the city of Summerside is located. The geographic division created by Malpeque Bay is informally augmented by a socio-economic division between the more urban East Prince and rural West Prince, although the line of division generally varies. Miminegash is a rural municipality in Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is located northwest of Alberton and southwest of Tignish. It is part of a small area in Lot 3 known as either the ''St. Louis'', '' Palmer Road'', or ''Miminegash'' area. This area is often associated with Tignish due to the shared Acadian roots between these areas.
