Meroo National Park
Meroo National Park is a national park in on South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. History Meroo has only recently been designated as a National Park. Previously it was a state forest which contained an unregulated camp ground with beautiful beaches and bushland. The area was badly damaged over ten years ago by bushfires. Because of this damage and its constant use by holiday goers the National Park lands authority decided to create a National Park on this State Forest land in an attempt to help regenerate the bushland. Description As well as the beaches there are tidal rockpools and a rocky island that can be reached at low tide. Many sea creatures can be found such as crabs, star fish, small fish and sea urchins. Since its creation as a National Park new rules and regulations have been brought in to increase care of the natural bushland and native fauna. The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is a directorate of the New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment responsible for managing most of the protected areas in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The South Coast refers to the narrow coastal belt from Shoalhaven district in the north to the border with Victoria in the south in the south-eastern part of the State of New South Wales, Australia. It is bordered to the west by the coastal escarpment of the Southern Tablelands, and is largely covered by a series of national parks, namely Jervis Bay National Park, Eurobodalla National Park, and Beowa National Park. The Ulladulla to Merimbula Important Bird Area comprises a strip of coastal and subcoastal land stretching along the southern coastline of New South Wales, Australia. It is an important site for swift parrots. Description The 2100 km2 Important Bird Area (IBA), identified as such by BirdLife International, extends for about 250 km between the towns of Ulladulla and Merimbula and extends about 10 km inland from the coast. It is defined by the presence of forests, or forest remnants, of spotted gum and other flowering eucalypts used by the parrots. It includes forests dominated by ironbarks and bloodwoods which are likely to support the parrots in years when the spotted gums are not flowering. The green and golden bell frog (''Ranoidea aurea''), also named the green bell frog, green and golden swamp frog and green frog, is a species of ground-dwelling tree frog native to eastern Australia. Despite its classification and climbing abilities, it does not live in trees and spends almost all of its time close to ground level.
