Merlynston Railway Station
Merlynston railway station is located on the Upfield line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the northern Melbourne suburb of Coburg North and opened on 8 October 1889 as North Coburg. It closed on 13 July 1903, and reopened on 1 October 1914. On 6 February 1922, it was renamed Merlynston. History Merlynston station opened when the railway line was extended from Coburg to Somerton. The locality was named by Donald Bain who, in 1919, purchased 31 hectares of land to be subdivided into a housing estate. Bain named the estate after his daughter, Merlyn. In 1948, flashing light signals were provided at the Boundary Road level crossing, in the down direction from the station. In 1959, the current island platform was provided when the line was duplicated between Coburg and Fawkner. In 1984, boom barriers were provided at the Boundary Road level crossing. Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is the brand name for public transport in the Australian state of Victoria, Australia, Victoria. It was the trading name of the Go Public Transport Development Authority (PTDA), a now-defunct statutory authority in Victoria, responsible for providing, coordinating, and promoting public transport. The PTV began operating on 2 April 2012, taking over many of the responsibilities previously exercised by the Director of Public Transport and the Department of Transport (Victoria, 2008–13), Department of Transport. Comeng (train)
The Comeng train ( ) is a type of electric multiple unit (EMU) that operates on the suburban railway network of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Built by Commonwealth Engineering (Comeng) in Dandenong, they were introduced in 1981 as a replacement for the Tait and Harris trains. In total, 570 carriages (380 motor cars and 190 trailer cars, a total of 95 six carriage sets) were built. Description Comeng trains are single deck and are semi-permanently coupled as M-T-M (motor-trailer-motor) sets. Most frequently, they are coupled as M-T-M-M-T-M (six-car) sets. Comeng trains have power operated doors that must be pulled open by hand but are closed by the driver. Flickr ( ; ) is an American image hosting and video hosting service, as well as an online community, founded in Canada and headquartered in the United States. It was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and was a popular way for amateur and professional photographers to host high-resolution photos. It has changed ownership several times and has been owned by SmugMug since April 20, 2018. Flickr had a total of 112 million registered members and more than 3.5 million new images uploaded daily. On August 5, 2011, the site reported that it was hosting more than 6 billion images. Photos and videos can be accessed from Flickr without the need to register an account, but an account must be made to upload content to the site. Gowrie Railway Station
Gowrie railway station is located on the Upfield line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the northern Melbourne suburb of Fawkner, and it opened on 16 October 1928 as Rail Motor Stopping Place 21. It closed on 5 May 1956, and reopened on 17 May 1965 as Gowrie. History Gowrie station originally opened as a Rail Motor Stopping Place on 16 October 1928, following the reinstatement of a passenger service on the Fawkner – Somerton line in March of that year. It closed when the passenger service ceased on 5 May 1956. On 17 May 1965, it opened in its current form, on what was by then the Upfield line. The name of the station comes from a grazing property named ''Gowrie Park'', which was named by the owner, who was originally from Gowrie, England. Boom Barrier
A boom barrier, also known as a boom gate, is a bar, or pole pivoted to allow the boom to block vehicular or pedestrian access through a controlled point. Typically the tip of a boom gate rises in a vertical arc to a near vertical position. Boom gates are often counterweighted, so the pole is easily tipped. Boom gates are often paired either end to end, or offset appropriately to block traffic in both directions. Some boom gates also have a second arm which hangs 300 to 400 mm below the upper arm when lowered, to increase approach visibility, and which hangs on links so it lies flat with the main boom as the barrier is raised. Double-track Railway
A double-track railway usually involves running one track in each direction, compared to a single-track railway where trains in both directions share the same track.
