Meriwether Lewis
Meriwether Lewis (August 18, 1774 – October 11, 1809) was an American explorer, soldier, politician, and public administrator, best known for his role as the leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, also known as the Corps of Discovery, with William Clark. Their mission was to explore the territory of the Louisiana Purchase, establish trade with, and sovereignty over the natives near the Missouri River, and claim the Pacific Northwest and Oregon Country for the United States before European nations. They also collected scientific data, and information on indigenous nations. President Thomas Jefferson appointed him Governor of Upper Louisiana in 1806. He died of gunshot wounds in what was either a murder or suicide, in 1809. Meriwether, Louisville
Meriwether is a neighborhood two miles southeast of downtown Louisville, Kentucky, USA, and just east of the University of Louisville. It was laid out by David Meriwether in 1871 and the first houses were built in 1891. Nearly all of the homes are shotgun houses. Its boundaries are the CSX railroad tracks to the north, Shelby Street to the east and I-65 to the west. Lincoln Park and Preston Park are located in the neighborhood. Meriwether County is a county located in the west central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,613. The county seat is Greenville, home of the Meriwether County Courthouse. The county was formed on December 14, 1827, as the 73rd county in Georgia. The SS ''Meriwether Lewis'' (Hull Number 170) was a Liberty ship built in the United States during World War II. She was named after Meriwether Lewis, an American explorer who, along with William Clark, led the Corps of Discovery which explored the American West. The ship was laid down on 19 May 1941, then launched on 19 October 1941. She was operated by the American Mail Line under charter with the Maritime Commission and War Shipping Administration. On February 7, 1943, the ship left New York as part of convoy HX 227, "bound for the United Kingdom and then to Murmansk, Russia." According to the German Navy, in the early morning of March 2, she was identified as a straggler separated from her convoy; an initial attack by failed due to engine problems. Meriwether is an American alternative rock band from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, formed in 2003. The band currently consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Andrew Reilley, bassist and Josh Barbier, and drummer Brett Schexnayder. History Meriwether released their debut full-length LP, ''Make Your Move'', in 2005 on start-up label GVE Records and sold over 10,000 copies and played over 300 shows in one year to promote the album by booking shows via MySpace. The band signed to Suretone Records in 2006 and the album ''Make Your Move'' was re-released in 2007, minus the songs "Aye Julian", "Girl In Mexico", & "And Tonic ER."
