Meridian State Park is a state park in Bosque County, Texas, United States. The park is . History The park opened in 1935, two years after the state acquired the land from private owners. The park's facilities were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Recreation The park has over 5 miles of hiking trails, as well as opportunities for swimming, fishing, and paddling in Lake Meridian. There are various types of campsites, as well as screened shelters and three cabins. Nature The park has a wide variety of wildlife. Meridian, Texas
Meridian (pronounced muh-REE-dee-uhn by locals) is a city and the county seat of Bosque County in central Texas, United States. It is forty-seven miles northwest of Waco. The population was 1,493 at the 2010 census. Geography Meridian is located at (31.92, –97.66). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which , or 0.85%, is water. Climate The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. Bosque County, Texas
Bosque County ( ) is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,235. Its county seat is Meridian, while Clifton is the largest city and the cultural/financial center of the county. The county is named for the Bosque River, which runs through the center of the county north to south. The Brazos River makes up the eastern border along with the Lake Whitney reservoir it feeds. Civilian Conservation Corps
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a voluntary government work relief program that ran from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men ages 18–25 and eventually expanded to ages 17–28. The CCC was a major part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal that supplied manual labor jobs related to the conservation and development of natural resources in rural lands owned by federal, state, and local governments. The CCC was designed to supply jobs for young men and to relieve families who had difficulty finding jobs during the Great Depression in the United States Robert Fechner was the first director of this agency, succeeded by James McEntee following Fechner's death.
