Merete Jul Ries (11 October 1938 - 25 May 2018) was a Danish publisher and editor. She entered the publishing literature when she joined the Gyldendal publishing house in 1966 and served as its publishing editor from 1968 until she was made redundant in 1980. Ries was an editor at the publishing house between 1981 and 1982 and then established the publishing house in 1982. She established a Danish news magazine called ''OMverden'' in 1991 and was an editor from 1993 to 2001, working on '' The History of Nordic Women's Literature'' and ''Dansk kvindebiografisk leksikon''. Merete Skavlan
Merete Skavlan (25 July 1920 – 2 November 2018) was a Norwegian actress, theater instructor and director. She was born in Kristiania as a daughter of newspaper editor and theatre director Einar Skavlan and music educator Margrethe Bartholdy. She was a granddaughter of literary historian Olaf Skavlan. She was involved in resistance work during World War II, and joined the unofficial " Stanislavskij Group" in 1943. The members of this group founded Studioteatret, and she made her debut at Studioteatret's first performance in 1945, in a translation of Wilder's play ''The Long Christmas Dinner''. She continued to play for Studioteatret until 1950. Merete Gerlach-Nielsen (1933–2019) was a Danish-born French-language academic, UNESCO's coordinating director for women's affairs (1988–1990), and one of the founders of Kvinfo, the Danish Centre for Research on Women and Gender. In 1998, she chose to adopt French citizenship. Biography Born on 16 August 1933 in Copenhagen, Merete Gerlach-Nielsen was the daughter of Carl Gerlach-Nielsen (1901–1991) and Louise Fanøe (1908–1987). Merete Barker (born 1944) is a Danish artist who uses sketches and photographs from her many travels as the basis for highly expressive paintings where it is often difficult to distinguish between nature and culture. She has received various honorary scholarships, as well as the Eckersberg Medal and the Danish Arts Foundation’s Lifelong Artist’s Grant. Merete Erbou Laurent (born 1949) is a Danish weaver and textile artist. Since the 1970s, she has specialized in weaving paper yarn to produce brightly coloured floor rugs, runners and carpets but more recently has used wool for her rugs.
