Merchistonian Football Club is a rugby football team based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was for former pupils of Merchiston Castle School. History Merchistonian was a founding member of the Scottish Rugby Union and one of the five Scottish clubs to issue the challenge to English football players that resulted in the first rugby international. The club supplied three players for the match Andrew Galbraith Colville, George Ritchie and the scorer of the match's only goal (conversion) William Cross. Cross also scored one of Scotland's two tries to England's one however, at the time, tries did not result in points merely a 'try' at scoring a goal and Scotland won the match 1–0.William Cross international rugby profile

Fettesian-Lorettonian Club
The Fettesian-Lorettonians Club is a Scotland, Scottish sporting club made up of former pupils of Fettes College and Loretto School. The club was founded in 1881 and has seen members of its club represent the Scotland national rugby union team. Club history The Fettesian-Lorettonians Club was formed in 1881, when a scratch team of ex-Fettes College students underwent a tour of North Yorkshire under the name ''Fettes Rovers'' in 1880.Marshall (1892), pg 64. Failing to recruit a full team, the side approached the headmaster of rival college Loretto School, and requested if he would allow members of the Loretto XI could play for the team. William Lovat Fraser
William Lovat Fraser (7 November 1884 – 21 November 1968) was a Scottish sportsman who played cricket and rugby union at an international level, representing Scotland in cricket and touring Argentina with the 1910 Combined British rugby union side, an early incarnation of the British and Irish Lions. Early life William Lovat Fraser was born in 1884 in Perth, Scotland. He was the older brother of Alan Fraser who also played cricket for Scotland (in 1921). Both attended Merchiston Castle School. Rugby union Fraser played his rugby for his school's old boys club, Merchistonian FC. Although he was never selected to play rugby for Scotland, he was selected to tour with the Combined British on the 1910 tour to Argentina where he played in what count as their first test match. Benjamin Blyth II
Benjamin Hall Blyth FRSE (25 May 1849 – 13 May 1917), often called Benjamin Blyth II, was a Scottish civil engineer. Family Blyth, who was born at 36 Minto Street, Edinburgh, was the eldest of the nine children of Mary Dudgeon Wright and the railway engineer Benjamin Blyth. He was educated at Merchiston Castle School between 1860 and 1864 before studying for a Master of Arts degree from the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1867. Edinburgh District (rugby Union)
Edinburgh District was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Edinburgh area, as well as others from the rest of east central Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Lothian regional council area. Historically the Edinburgh District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. The Edinburgh District rugby union team was founded in 1872. The team played the world's first inter-district match that year against Glasgow District rugby union team. Gordon Neilson
Colonel Walter Gordon Neilson, (1 October 1876–29 April 1927) was a Scotland international rugby football player. He later became an Army officer, serving in the Boer War and World War I. The Scotland national rugby union team represents Scotland in men's international rugby union and is administered by the Scottish Rugby Union.
