Merchant Navy (horse)
Merchant Navy (foaled 14 November 2014) is an Australian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He showed considerable promise as a juvenile when he was undefeated in three start including the Listed ANZAC Day Stakes. As a three-year-old he proved himself one of the best horses of his generation in Australia over sprint distances, taking the HDF McNeil Stakes and the Coolmore Stud Stakes as well as being placed in both the Rubiton Stakes and the Newmarket Handicap. In the summer of 2018 he was relocated to Europe where he won both his races, namely the Greenlands Stakes in Ireland and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. Background Merchant Navy is a bay horse foaled at the Segenhoe Stud in New South Wales by Chris Barham, a chiropractor from Toowoomba. Fastnet Rock (horse)
Fastnet Rock is an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse stallion. Sired by Danehill to dam Piccadilly Circus, he started his racing career in 2004. Though he did not win any races as a two-year-old, he ran third in the Group One AJC Sires Produce Stakes. He found great success after turning three years old. After being unplaced in the Caulfield Guineas, he proved himself as one of the top Australian sprinters by winning the Group 1 Lightning Stakes and Oakleigh Plate in February 2005. Trainer Paul Perry wished Fastnet Rock to repeat the successful English campaign by Choisir, who is trained by Perry, in 2003. After he ran second in the T J Smith Stakes in March 2005, Fastnet Rock was sent to the United Kingdom to prepare for the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes and July Cup. Group races, also known as Pattern races, or Graded races in some jurisdictions, are the highest level of races in Thoroughbred horse racing. Qualify (foaled 22 April 2012) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. On 5 June 2015 she was a 50/1 winner of The Oaks. She ran seven times as a juvenile in 2014, winning a maiden race and the Group Three C. L. Weld Park Stakes but was well-beaten when tried against the best fillies of her generation in the Moyglare Stud Stakes and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. In the spring of 2015 she was initially disappointing as she finished unplaced in both the 1000 Guineas and the Irish 1,000 Guineas before being stepped up in distance and winning the Oaks. Fascinating Rock (foaled 28 March 2011) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. After finishing unplaced on his only appearance as a juvenile he emerged as a high-class middle distance colt in the spring of 2014 with wins in the Ballysax Stakes and the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial but was well-beaten in both The Derby and the Irish Derby. In 2015 he won the Mooresbridge Stakes and the Enterprise Stakes before recording his biggest win in the Champion Stakes. In 2016 he won the Tattersalls Gold Cup. Coolmore Stud, in Fethard, County Tipperary, Ireland, is headquarters of the world's largest breeding operation of thoroughbred racehorses. Through its racing arm, Ballydoyle, Coolmore also has raced many classic winners and champions. Atlantic Jewel
Atlantic Jewel (26 September 2008 – 20 August 2020) was an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse. Sired by champion sire Fastnet Rock, and raced by Coolmore, Atlantic Jewel was trained by Melbourne's Mark Kavanagh. She won 10 of her 11 starts, including four Group One races. Her eighth start was the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse, where she defeated eight rivals after a long injury break, and it confirmed her as Australia's best racehorse. She also won the 1000 Guineas at Caulfield Racecourse by three lengths, defeating four-time Group One winner Mosheen. Shoals is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse trained and bred in Australia. She won three Group One races and over two and half million dollars over her career. Career Shoals made her debut on 21 February 2017 at Seymour, winning by 4 lengths. 4 weeks later, she won the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes. Opening with bookies at $7, she was backed into $2.70 by the start of the race, winning by half a length. Travelling to Sydney for the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes, Shoals was a "well supported" favourite in a "gritty win", coming from 2nd last down the straight to win by a half head. Trainer Anthony Freedman said, "She's a very tenacious filly. I don't think she really handled the ground all that well but she just has a great will to win."
