Meoqui Municipality
Meoqui is one of the 67 municipalities of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. The municipal seat lies at Pedro Meoqui. The municipality covers an area of 370 km², making it one of the smallest in the state but one of the most densely populated. As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 43,833, up from 41,389 as of 2005. The municipality had 882 localities, the largest of which (with 2010 populations in parentheses) were: Pedro Meoqui, Chihuahua, Pedro Meoqui (22,574), Lázaro Cárdenas, Chihuahua, Lázaro Cárdenas (8,704), classified as urban, and Estación Consuelo, Chihuahua, Estación Consuelo (1,981), Colonia Felipe Ángeles, Chihuahua, Colonia Felipe Ángeles (1,254), and Guadalupe Victoria, Chihuahua, Guadalupe Victoria (1,045), classified as rural. Municipalities (''municipios'' in Spanish language, Spanish) are the second-level administrative divisions of Mexico, where the first-level administrative division is the ''states of Mexico, state'' (Spanish: estado). They should not be confused with cities or towns that may share the same name as they are distinct entities and do not share geographical boundaries. Guadalupe Victoria (; 29 September 178621 March 1843), born José Miguel Ramón Adaucto Fernández y Félix, was a Mexican general and politician who fought for independence against the Spanish Empire in the Mexican War of Independence and after the adoption of the Constitution of 1824, was elected as the first president of the United Mexican States. He was a deputy in the Mexican Chamber of Deputies for Durango and a member of the Supreme Executive Power following the downfall of the First Mexican Empire, which was followed by the 1824 Constitution and his presidency. He later served as Governor of Puebla. Born in Nueva Vizcaya, New Spain (now Durango), he graduated from the College of San Ildefonso with a Bachelor of Laws degree.
