Meoqui
Meoqui is one of the 67 municipalities of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. The municipal seat lies at Pedro Meoqui. The municipality covers an area of 370 km², making it one of the smallest in the state but one of the most densely populated. As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 43,833, up from 41,389 as of 2005. The municipality had 882 localities, the largest of which (with 2010 populations in parentheses) were: Pedro Meoqui (22,574), Lázaro Cárdenas (8,704), classified as urban, and Estación Consuelo (1,981), Colonia Felipe Ángeles (1,254), and Guadalupe Victoria (1,045), classified as rural. Was Fray Andrés Ramírez, a franciscan missionary, the recognized founder of Meoqui, arrived from San Antonio de Julimes as part of a larger effort to Christianize the Indians along the San Pedro River and began the development of the area along the San Pedro River, then inhabited by indigenous Conchos, Julimes, Navichames and Mezquites. The region was subject to the rule of the regional military presidios from the end of the 17th Century until 1773, when the Military Presidio of San Pablo was established. Chihuahua (), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Chihuahua ( es, Estado Libre y Soberano de Chihuahua), is one of the 31 states which, along with Mexico City, comprise the 32 federal entities of Mexico. Guadalupe Victoria (; 29 September 178621 March 1843), born José Miguel Ramón Adaucto Fernández y Félix, was a Mexican general and politician who fought for independence against the Spanish Empire in the Mexican War of Independence and after the adoption of the Constitution of 1824, was elected as the first president of the United Mexican States. He was a deputy in the Mexican Chamber of Deputies for Durango and a member of the Supreme Executive Power following the downfall of the First Mexican Empire, which was followed by the 1824 Constitution and his presidency. He later served as Governor of Puebla. Born in Nueva Vizcaya, New Spain (now Durango), he graduated from the College of San Ildefonso with a Bachelor of Laws degree.
