Menzelinsk Airport
Menzelinsk is an airport in Russia located 3 km west of Menzelinsk, in the Kama river valley. It is a civilian airfield with small tarmac. Menzelinsk drop zone Menzelinsk airport is currently known as Menzelinsk drop zone. It operate two turboprop aircraft -- L-410 and An-28, and a number of smaller aircraft, like An-2. There is a hotel, canteen, rent and a heated packing rooms. The first parachute jump can be performed with static-line Soviet parachute D-6, or a modern free-fall tandem jump. There is an Accelerated Free Fall program to advance and a series of special courses for Tandem Masters, AFF instructors and wingsuit instructors. Landing area for parachuting is 1700×800 meters. 2021 Parachute Menzelinsk Let L-410UVP-E Crash
The 2021 Menzelinsk parachute Let L-410UVP-E crash occurred near the town of Menzelinsk, Tatarstan, Russia on 10 October 2021. Immediately after taking off from the local airfield, the Let L-410 Turbolet, L-410 aircraft belonging to DOSAAF Russia began to lose altitude and crashed into the ground. 16 of the 22 people on board were killed, including both crew members and 14 parachutists, while 6 other parachutists survived. Background Aircraft The plane was manufactured in April 1987 (serial number 18-26) and had the tail number RF-94591. It began to operate in 1987 in the Soviet Air Forces, then in the Russian Air Force and in January 2014, it entered DOSAAF Russia. Freeflying
Freeflying is a skydiving discipline which began in the late 1980s, involving freefalling in various vertical orientations, as opposed to the traditional "belly-to-earth" orientation. The discipline is known to have originated when Olav Zipser began experimenting with non-traditional forms of bodyflight. Freestyle Skydiving
Freestyle skydiving is a competitive skydiving discipline where one member of a two-person team performs acrobatic manoeuvres in free fall while the other one films the performance from a close distance using a helmet-mounted camera. A canopy formation is a formation built by parachutists by flying their parachutes in proximity to each other and then taking grips ("docking") on other jumpers' parachutes. Wingsuit
Wingsuit flying (or wingsuiting) is the sport of skydiving using a webbing-sleeved jumpsuit called a wingsuit to add webbed area to the diver's body and generate increased lift, which allows extended air time by gliding flight rather than just free falling. The modern wingsuit, first developed in the late 1990s, uses a pair of fabric membranes stretched flat between the arms and flanks/thighs to imitate an airfoil, and often also between the legs to function as a tail and allow some aerial steering.
