Menston Railway Station
Menston railway station is a railway station in Menston, in the City of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. On the Wharfedale Line between Ilkley and Leeds/ Bradford Forster Square, it is served by Class 331 and 333 electric trains run by Northern Trains, who also manage the station. It was opened in August 1865 by the Midland Railway on their line from Apperley Junction to , from where trains could travel to either Ilkley or via the Otley and Ilkley Joint Railway. The route to Otley was closed in 1965, but the Ilkley line (though also listed for closure in the 1963 Beeching Report) avoided a similar fate, being finally reprieved in 1972. Electric services at the station commenced in 1994. Between 1883 and 1951, High Royds Hospital, which stood to the west of the line, was served by a half mile long private siding from just south of Menston station. Menston is a village and civil parish in the City of Bradford in the county of West Yorkshire, England. Along with Burley in Wharfedale, most of Menston is within Wharfedale Ward in the metropolitan borough of Bradford. The remainder of Menston is in the Leeds City Council area. At the 2011 census it has a population of 4,498 (down from 4,660 in 2001). Landmarks Menston's Anglican parish church is dedicated to St John the Divine, and is part of the Diocese of Leeds. Otley And Ilkley Joint Railway
The Otley and Ilkley Joint Railway was a railway line running between the towns of Otley and Ilkley in West Yorkshire. The line was managed and run jointly by the Midland Railway (MR) and the North Eastern Railway (NER) and was long. Opened to passenger traffic on 1 August 1865 and freight traffic some months later, the line ran for almost 100 years before partial closure in July 1965 when the line to Otley closed. Today passenger services run over the rest of the line as part of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (WYPTE) Wharfedale Line. Wharfedale Hospital
Wharfedale Hospital (formerly known as Wharfedale General Hospital) is located in the market town of Otley, West Yorkshire, England, and is managed by the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. History The facility has its origins in an infirmary built for the Wharfedale Union Workhouse on the Newall Carr Road in 1873. An infirmary with 70 beds was added in 1907 and was administered by the Wharfedale Board of Guardians until 1930. It went on to become the Otley County Institution and then became Otley County Hospital. The facility joined the National Health Service as Otley County Hospital in 1948 and later became Wharfedale General Hospital.
