Suzy Peta Menkes (born 24 December 1943) is a British journalist and fashion critic. Formerly the fashion editor for the International Herald Tribune, Menkes also served as editor, Vogue International, for 25 international editions of ''Vogue'' online until October 2020. Early life and education Menkes was born in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. She was educated at Brighton and Hove High School. As a teenager in the 1960s, she moved to Paris to study dressmaking at what has now become ESMOD. Her landlady gained her entry into her first couture show at Nina Ricci, which sparked her interest in high fashion. On her return from Paris, she read history and English literature at Newnham College, Cambridge while her sister studied at Oxford. Menkes Disease
Menkes disease (MNK), also known as Menkes syndrome, is an X-linked recessive disorder caused by mutations in genes coding for the copper-transport protein ATP7A, leading to copper deficiency. Characteristic findings include kinky hair, growth failure, and nervous system deterioration. Like all X-linked recessive conditions, Menkes disease is more common in males than in females. The disorder was first described by John Hans Menkes in 1962. Onset occurs during infancy, with incidence of about 1 in 100,000 to 250,000 newborns; affected infants often do not live past the age of three years, though there are rare cases in which less severe symptoms emerge later in childhood. Murray Menkes
Murray Menkes (April 21, 1926 – April 24, 2013) was a Canadian property developer and founder of Menkes Developments Ltd. in North York, Ontario which became one of the largest developers in the Toronto area. Early life and family Murray Menkes was born in Toronto on April 21, 1926 to Max and Anne Menkes. His parents were Polish immigrants and came to Canada in the late 1910s. Menkes in his youth started working at his father's fur business until he realized that he can be more successful selling real estate in the 1940s. In 1949 Menkes married Pauline Weintraub and together had three sons Alan, Steven and Peter. His three sons as well as grandsons Jared, Adam, Jason and Sean work at Menkes's company Menkes Developments. John Menkes
John Hans Menkes (December 20, 1928 – November 22, 2008) was an Austrian-American pediatric neurologist and author of fictional novels and plays. He identified two inherited diseases: maple syrup urine disease which is a defect in amino acid metabolism, and a defect in copper transport which Menkes disease, bears his name. In addition to a career in academic medicine, he pursued a career in writing, publishing novels and plays. Early life Menkes was born in 1928 in Vienna, Austria. His family fled Austria for Ireland days before the start of World War II, and later moved to California. He was interested in journalism, but his father, a fourth-generation physician, convinced him to go into medicine. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in organic chemistry from the University of Southern California.
