Menge (woreda)
Menge is one of the 20 Districts of Ethiopia, or ''woredas'', in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Asosa Zone, it is bordered by Asosa in the southwest, by Komesha in the west, by Sherkole in the north, by Kamashi Zone in the northeast, and by the Dabus River on the east which separates it from Oda Buldigilu. This woreda is named after its only town, Menge. Demographics The 2007 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 40,240, of whom 20,248 were men and 19,992 were women; 1,101 or 2.74% of its population were urban dwellers. The majority of the inhabitants said they were Moslem, with 98.74% of the population reporting they observed this belief. Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 38,503, of whom 19,115 are men and 19,388 are women; 318 or 0.83% of the population are urban dwellers. Menge, Ethiopia
Menge is a town in western Ethiopia. Located in the Asosa Zone of the Benishangul-Gumuz Region, Menge has a latitude and longitude of with an elevation of 1123 meters above sea level. Records at the Nordic Africa Institute website provide details of a primary school in Menge in 1968. In 1970, a group of three German travelers travelling down the Abay River describe Menge as a settlement with masonry houses, and record that it had a police station. Demographics Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency (CSA), in 2005 this town has an estimated total population of 318, of whom 176 were males and 142 were females. It is the largest settlement in Menge woreda. The 1994 national census reported its total population was 185, of whom 102 were males and 83 were females. The three largest ethnic groups reported in Menge were: the Berta 118, Oromo 27, and Amhara 27. Menge House Complex is a historic home located at Dolgeville in Herkimer County, New York. It was built in 1893 and is a -story, asymmetrically massed Queen Anne–style frame on a stone foundation. Franz Anton Menge (15 February 1808 in Arnsberg – 27 January 1880 in Danzig) was a German entomologist. Menge was a student of Physics, Chemistry and Natural History at the University of Bonn He became professor at the Petrischule in Danzig. Menge published ''Preussische Spinnen'' or ''Spiders of Prussia'' between 1866 and 1878. His collection of insects and spiders is in the State Natural History Museum in Gdańsk. Johann Menge
Johannes Menge (4 January 1788 – 1852), is regarded as South Australia's first geologist, though he had no formal qualifications. An early explorer of the new colony, he was influential in the settlement of the Barossa Valley. He has been called the "father of South Australian mineralogy". On the passenger list of the ship that brought him out he was called "Johannes Joseph Menge", but in his letters to newspapers he variously called himself "John" and "Joseph". To fellow-colonists he was "Professor Menge".
