Mendocino County Superior Court
The Superior Court of California, County of Mendocino, also known as the Mendocino County Superior Court or Mendocino Superior Court, is the California superior court with jurisdiction over Mendocino County. History Mendocino County was one of the original counties established when California gained statehood in 1850. For revenue and judicial purposes, Mendocino County was attached to Sonoma County and gained its independence in 1859; that year the county seat was established at Ukiah. The only other competitor for the county seat was Calpella. The first county courthouse was built in 1859. Bids for the new courthouse were received in August 1859 and upon unsealing the bids, the contract was awarded to E. Rathburn for . This first courthouse was accepted on January 24, 1860. Ukiah ( ; Pomo: ''Yokaya'', meaning "deep valley") is the county seat and largest city of Mendocino County, California, with a population of 16,607 at the 2020 census. With its accessible location along the U.S. Route 101 corridor, Ukiah serves as the city center for Mendocino County and much of neighboring Lake County. History Establishment Ukiah is located within Rancho Yokaya, one of several Spanish colonial land grants in what was their colonists called ''Alta California''. The Yokaya grant, which covered the majority of the Ukiah valley, was named for the Pomo word meaning "deep valley." Fort Bragg, California
Fort Bragg, officially the City of Fort Bragg, is a city along the Pacific Coast of California along Shoreline Highway in Mendocino County. The city is west of Willits, at an elevation of . Its population was 6,983 at the 2020 census. Fort Bragg is a tourist destination because of its views of the Pacific Ocean. Among its notable points of interest are Glass Beach and the California Western Railroad (popularly known as the "Skunk Train"). Calpella, California
Calpella (Pomo: ''Kalpela'', meaning "Mussel bearer") is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Mendocino County, California, United States. It is located on the Russian River, north of Ukiah. It is situated within the Ukiah Valley, at the intersection of U.S. Route 101 and State Route 20. The population was 799 at the 2020 census, up from 679 in 2010. The small town is the site of the Mendocino Redwood Company mill and offices, which controls ten percent of the private land in the county. History Col. C.H. Veeder and James Pettus, Veeder's son-in-law, founded the town in 1858. It is named after Kalpela, the chief of the nearby Pomo village of Chomchadila.
