''Men, Animals and Sensations'' (German: ''Menschen, Tiere, Sensationen'') is a 1938 German drama film directed by and starring Harry Piel and also featuring Ruth Eweler and Elisabeth Wendt. It is a circus film. It was shot at the Terra Studios in Berlin with sets designed by the art director Max Knaake.Klaus p.136 Location filming took place at the Sarrasani circus in Dresden. Harry Piel
Heinrich Piel (12 July 1892 – 27 March 1963), known professionally as Harry Piel, was a prolific German actor, film director, screenwriter, and film producer who was involved in over 150 films. Piel became a director in 1912, turning out such box-office successes as ''Mann Gegen Mann'' (1928), ''Achtung! - Auto-Diebe!'' (1930) and ''Artisten'' (1935). His last directorial effort was 1953's ''Gesprengte Gitter (Elephant Fury'', a.k.a. ''Panic''), which he also produced, wrote, and starred. Early life After attending elementary school in Benrath and High School in Derendorf, Piel became a cadet in 1909 on a sailing ship, the ''Grand Duchess Elizabeth''. In 1911, however, he finished his cadet hood and moved to Berlin in 1912 where he created the "Art Film Publishing House Company" and made, as a director, screenwriter and producer, his first feature ''Black Blood'' (1912) with Curt Goetz in the lead role. ''Charly'' (marketed and stylized as ''CHAЯLY'') is a 1968 American drama film directed and produced by Ralph Nelson and written by Stirling Silliphant. It is based on ''Flowers for Algernon'', a science-fiction short story (1958) and subsequent novel (1966) by Daniel Keyes. The film stars Cliff Robertson as Charly Gordon, an intellectually disabled adult who is selected by two doctors to undergo a surgical procedure that triples his IQ as it had done for a laboratory mouse who underwent the same procedure. The film also stars Claire Bloom, Lilia Skala, Leon Janney, Dick Van Patten and Barney Martin. Robertson had played the same role in a 1961 television adaptation titled " The Two Worlds of Charlie Gordon," an episode of the anthology series ''The United States Steel Hour''.
