The 2012 World Fencing Championships was held in Kyiv, Ukraine from 13–14 April. The only events were the women's team sabre and men's épée team, as these events are not included in the program of the 2012 London Olympics. Soren Thompson
Soren Hunter Miles Sussman Thompson (born May 5, 1981) is an American épée fencer, team world champion, and two-time Olympian. He represented the United States in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, where he reached the quarterfinals and came in 7th, the best US result in the event since 1956 and at the time the second-best US result of all-time. He also represented the US in the 2012 Olympics in London. Thompson won a gold medal and world championship in the team épée event at the 2012 World Fencing Championships. He was inducted into the USA Fencing Hall of Fame in 2018, and the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2020. Weston "Seth" Kelsey (born August 24, 1981 in Santa Monica, California) is an American épée fencer and three time Olympic fencer. He competed at three Olympiads: 2004, 2008 and 2012. Cody Mattern (born February 23, 1981) is an American fencer. He competed in the individual and team épée events at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He coached at the Northwest Fencing Center, in Beaverton, Oregon. Fencing He started fencing at Northwest Fencing Center, in 1996. In 1998 and 1999, he won the Junior National Championships. Gauthier Grumier (born 29 May 1984, in Nevers) is a French left-handed épée fencer. Grumier is a three-time team European champion, 2015 individual European champion, and five-time team world champion. A two-time Olympian, Grumier is a 2016 team Olympic champion and 2016 individual Olympic bronze medalist. Career Grumier won the gold medal in the épée team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships after beating Spain in the final. Borel is a two-time team European champion, four-time individual European champion, four-time team world champion, and 2018 individual world champion.
