Men's K-1 At WAKO World Championships 2007 Belgrade -71 Kg
The men's light middleweight (71 kg/156.2 lbs) K-1 category at the W.A.K.O. World Championships 2007 in Belgrade was the sixth lightest of the K-1 tournaments, involving twelve fighters all based in Europe. Each of the matches was three rounds of two minutes each and were fought under K-1 rules. Owing to the low number of fighters for a sixteen-man tournament, four of the contestants had byes through to the quarter-finals. The tournament winner was Belarus's Dmitry Valent who won gold by defeating his Russian opponent Rizvan Isaev. Semi finalists Djime Coulibaly from France and Italian Manuele Raini were rewarded for the efforts with bronze medals. Dmitry 'Black Valet' Valent (born 13 April 1988 in Minsk, Belarus) is a Belarusian Muay Thai middleweight/ super middleweight kickboxer. He is the former WKN Middleweight Oriental rules and Muay thai champion, former WMC Light Heavyweight champion, two time WMC I-1 World Muaythai Grand Slam champion and two time Kunlun Fight 80kg tournament runner-up. Dmitry is one of Belarus's top fighters. List Of WAKO Amateur World Championships
W.A.K.O. held its first amateur world championships in 1978 in West Berlin, after having previously staged two European championships the two years previously. It followed this with a second world championships a year later in Tampa, Florida. During the 1980s the world championships were held every other year except for in 1985 when a feud within the W.A.K.O. organization led to two versions of the championships being held on the same date – one in London, the other in Budapest. In the 1990s W.A.K.O. held its world championships intermittently with at least one every other year although, in 1993 the organization again had a temporary political dispute which like 1985 meant two championships in one year. The first W.A.K.O. Amateur European Championships were organized by George Bruckner and held in Vienna in 1977 and between 1977 and 1982 the organization held a European Championships each year. W.A.K.O. began to change the timing of the championships after 1982, making sure that they were every two years, thus (generally) falling between world championships.
