''Memorabilia – The Singles'' is a compilation album of songs by the British singer/songwriter Marc Almond, both as a solo artist and with his partner David Ball (electronic musician), Dave Ball as the synth-pop duo Soft Cell. It was released in 1991 and reached number eight in the UK Albums Chart. The album was promoted by the singles "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, Say Hello, Wave Goodbye '91" and "Tainted Love, Tainted Love '91". The majority of the Soft Cell singles on this compilation are not the original versions and have new re-recorded vocals and some new musical recordings and remixing, with the exception of "Torch" and "Soul Inside". The version of "Soul Inside" is unique to this recording, as is "Tears Run Rings", which is an edited version of the Justin Strauss remix. Soft Cell
Soft Cell are an English synth-pop duo who came to prominence in the early 1980s. The duo consists of vocalist Marc Almond and instrumentalist David Ball (electronic musician), David Ball. The band are primarily known for their 1981 hit version of "Tainted Love" and their platinum-selling debut album ''Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret''. In the United Kingdom, Soft Cell had twelve top 40 hits, including "Tainted Love" (number 1), "Torch (song), Torch" (number 2), "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye", "What (song), What" (both number 3), and "Bedsitter (song), Bedsitter" (number 4). They also had four top 20 albums between 1981 and 1984. The duo split in 1984 but reformed in 2001 to tour and release a new album. Ed Cobb
Edward Cornelius Cobb (February 25, 1938, South Pasadena, California – September 19, 1999, Honolulu, Hawaii) was an American musician, songwriter, and record producer, most notably during the 1950s and 1960s. He is notable for writing the song "Tainted Love" for Gloria Jones, which later became a hit worldwide when it was covered by Soft Cell. Career The Four Preps Cobb was a member of the pop group the Four Preps from its discovery in 1956 until he left the group in 1966, three years before it disbanded. Songwriting Cobb wrote the song "Tainted Love" for Gloria Jones, which Soft Cell reworked into one of the biggest pop hits of the 1980s. The Grid are an English electronic dance group, consisting of David Ball (formerly of Soft Cell) and Richard Norris, with guest contributions from other musicians. He has also had a successful recording career in his own right. He is best known for his collaborations with Roger Greenaway. "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" is a song written by Roger Greenaway and Roger Cook. Originally recorded by Gene Pitney in 1967, the latter's version of the song reached No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart in December 1967, but failed to chart in the United States.
