Memoir Of War
''Memoir of War'', also known as ''Memoir of Pain'' (french: La douleur), is a 2017 French drama film directed by Emmanuel Finkiel that stars Mélanie Thierry and Benoît Magimel and is based on the 1985 autobiographical novel ''La Douleur'' by Marguerite Duras. It was selected as the French entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. Plot As Allied armies approach Paris in the summer of 1944, the occupying Germans arrest Robert, a writer and resister. His distraught wife Marguerite, also a writer and in the same resistance network, is approached by a French collaborator working for the Gestapo, who says he may be able to give information on her husband's fate. In return, he explicitly wants information on the influential resister Morland and implicitly would like an affair. Emmanuel Finkiel (born 30 October 1961 in Boulogne-Billancourt) is a French film director and actor. He initially worked as an assistant director for 16 years. His debut film, ''Voyages'' received Louis Delluc Prize and César Award for Best First Feature Film. Finkiel also received Prix Jean Vigo for his film ''Nulle part, terre promise.'' This is a list of submissions to the 91st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018. Dionys Mascolo (11 February 1916 - 20 August 1997) was a French literary editor, resistance fighter, left-wing political activist, author, and former husband of Marguerite Duras. Life and work Born into a family of Italian immigrants, Mascolo worked at several small jobs when he found himself in charge of a family after his father's death.
