Membraniporidae is a bryozoan family in the order Cheilostomatida. '' Membranipora'' form encrusting or erect colonies; they are unilaminar or bilaminar and weakly to well-calcified. Zooids have vertical and basal calcified walls, but virtually no frontal calcified wall: most of the frontal surface is occupied by frontal membrane. An intertentacular organ is also present. ''Membranipora'' is a genus of bryozoans in the family Membraniporidae. A typical example is the widely distributed species ''Membranipora membranacea'' that commonly encrusts seaweeds, particularly fronds of the kelps ''Laminaria digitata'', ''L. hyperborea'', and ''Saccorhiza polyschides''. Colonies of ''M. membranacea'' show different forms of polyphenism as spines, tower zooids, chimneys and stolons. Reproduction The eggs of ''M. membranipora'' develop into planktonic cyphonautes larvae which is strongly triangular in outline and about 850μm x 600μm big. ''Membranipora membranacea'' is a very widely distributed species of marine bryozoan known from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, usually in temperate zone environments. This bryozoan is a colonial organism characterized by a thin, mat-like encrustation, white to gray in color. Cheilostomatida, also called Cheilostomata, is an order of Bryozoa in the class Gymnolaemata. They are exclusively marine, colonial invertebrate animals. Cheilostome colonies are composed of calcium carbonate and grow on a variety of surfaces, including rocks, shells, seagrass and kelps. The colony shapes range from simple encrusting sheets to erect branching and even unattached forms. As in other bryozoan groups, each colony is composed of a few to thousands of individual polypides. Each individual has a U-shaped gut, and no respiratory, circulatory, or nerve system. Unique among bryozoans, cheilostome polypides are housed in a box-shaped zooids, which do not grow larger once the zooid is mature. The opening through which the polypide protrudes is protected by a calcareous or chitinous lidlike structure, an operculum. A zooid or zoöid is a single animal that is part of a colonial animal. This lifestyle has been adopted by animals from separate unrelated taxa. Zooids are multicellular; their structure is similar to that of other solitary animals. ''Avicularia'' is a genus of the family Theraphosidae containing various species of arboreal tarantulas. The genus is native to Panama, the Caribbean and tropical South America.
