Members Of The Queensland Legislative Assembly, 1915–1918
This is a list of members of the 20th Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1915 to 1918, as elected at the 1915 state election held on 22 May 1915. The election was a landslide for the Labor Party, with the previous premier Digby Denham and many of the Denham Ministry losing their parliamentary seats. The members elected with the support of the Queensland Farmers' Union organised as the Country Party. Unlike in most other states at this time, the Labor Party in Queensland did not split over the conscription issue; however, the former Liberal and Country members largely joined the National Party. : On 10 July 1915, William Hamilton, the Labor member for Gregory, was appointed to the Queensland Legislative Council. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the '' Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). Liberal Party (Queensland, 1908)
The Liberal Party was a political party in the Australian state of Queensland in the early 20th century. It combined the main non-Labor forces, the " Kidstonites" of William Kidston and the Conservatives of Robert Philp, similar to the federal Commonwealth Liberal Party whose fusion it preceded. The Liberals held government from their formation in 1908 until defeat in 1915 after which they combined with other elements in the state to form the National Party. Electoral District Of Maree
Maree was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland, Australia. History Maree was created by the 1910 Electoral Districts Act, taking effect at the 1912 elections. It was based on Kangaroo Point, Queensland and consisted of the slightly altered Electoral district of Woolloongabba, which was abolished in 1912. Most of the area of Maree and was incorporated into the Electoral district of Norman in 1950. William Bertram (politician)
William Bertram (11 January 1875 – 11 June 1957) was an Australian politician. He was the Labor member for Maree in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1912 to 1929. He served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1920 to 1929. His grandson, Harold Lowes Harold Bertram Lowes (1 October 1926 – 22 August 2002) was an Australian lawyer and politician. Electoral District Of Fassifern
Fassifern was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1992. It was based on the area south of Ipswich and stretched toward the New South Wales border, although in subsequent redistributions was reduced in size away from the growing Brisbane area. It was named after the Fassifern Valley. Fassifern was a safe Country/National district for most of its existence. It was abolished in the 1991 redistribution under the Goss government, and was largely replaced by the new district of Beaudesert. Ernest Bell
Ernest Thomas Bell (31 March 1880 – 2 May 1930) was a pastoralist and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Bell was born in Camboon, Queensland, to parents John Thomas Marsh Bell and his wife Gertrude Augusta (née Norton) and attended Toowoomba Grammar School and Ipswich Grammar School. When he left school he was the manager of Combargno Station, Roma. He was involved in many agricultural associations over the years including president of the Fassifern Agricultural and Pastoral Association and chairman of the Australian Meat Council. William Bebbington
William Bebbington (19 October 1856 – 31 July 1939) was a cheese maker and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Bebbington was born at Baschurch, Salop, England, to Thomas Bebbington and his wife Martha. He worked as a clerk for the Midland Railway before arriving in Australia and settling in Toowoomba. He started a cheese factory in the town and eventually became the President of the Queensland Cheese Manufacturers' Association. George Powell Barnes (20 September 1856 – 9 December 1949), generally referred to by his full name or as "George P.
