Member Of Parliament (Sri Lanka)
In Sri Lanka a Member of Parliament (MP), is the title given to any one of the 225 individuals elected or appointed to serve in the Parliament of Sri Lanka. Electoral system Of the 225 members, 196 are elected from 22 electoral districts, which are multi-member. The remaining 29 MPs are elected from National Lists allocated to the parties (and independent groups) in proportion to their share of the national vote. Elections All MP positions become simultaneously vacant for elections held on a five-year cycle. If a vacancy arises at another time, due to death or resignation, then an electoral district vacancy may be filled by the second highest scoring candidate in the last election from that electoral district. Ministers Of The Sri Lanka Government
Ministers, in the Sri Lankan Government, are members of Parliament who hold ministerial appointments from the President to perform certain functions of government. This includes formulating and implementing policies and heading government ministries. Ministers collectively make up the executive branch of the Sri Lankan state. Constitutionally, the president is obliged to follow the advice of the prime minister on the appointment and dismissal of ministers. Sri Lanka Law College
Sri Lanka Law College (abbreviated as SLLC), formerly known as Ceylon Law College, is a law college, and the only legal institution where one can enroll as a attorney-at-law in Sri Lanka. It was established in 1874, under the then Council of Legal Education, in order to impart a formal legal education to those who wished to become advocates and proctors in Ceylon. The main building of the college was constructed in 1911. It is located on Hulftsdorp Street in Colombo, Sri Lanka. As of late 2021, the current principal is Dr. Athula Pathinayake. Law education In order to practice law in Sri Lanka, a lawyer must be admitted and enrolled as an Attorney-At-Law of the Supreme Court. To receive admission to the bar, a law student must complete law exams held by the SLLC, followed by a practical training course combined with an apprenticeship, which is roughly 6 months. Nuwara Eliya ( si, නුවර එළිය ; ta, நுவரெலியா) is a city in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. Its name means "city on the plain (table land)" or "city of light". Bungalow
A bungalow is a small house or cottage that is either single-story or has a second story built into a sloping roof (usually with dormer windows), and may be surrounded by wide verandas. General's House, Nuwara Eliya
General's House is a country house in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. It is the vacationing and country residence of Members of Parliament. Located within the limits of the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council along the Grand Hotel Drive, next to The Hill Club. It is maintained by the Members Services Office of the Parliament Secretariat. History In 1904 the Colonial Secretary authorised the construction of a new residence for the General Officer Commanding at Nuwara Eliya. In 1906 a sum of £20,882 was allocated for the acquisition of the site. Built as an English country house, during the late 19th century by the British Colonial administration of the island for the use of the British General Officer Commanding, Ceylon as a vacationing residence in the cold highlands of Nuwara Eliya. Madiwela Housing Complex
Madiwela Housing Complex in the suburb of Madiwela, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is a housing scheme owned and maintained by the Parliament of Sri Lanka for the use of Members of Parliament (MPs) from out side Colombo. Until the 1980s, MPs from outlying regions of the island lodged at Srawasthi Mandiraya in central Colombo. The Madiwela Housing Complex was built with 120 housing units for Members of Parliament and their families for the duration of their term in office. The Madiwela Housing Complex was completed in 1994. In 2014 the government decided to construct a high-rise residential tower at a site near the Sri Jayewardenepura Teaching Hospital in Thalapathpitiya, at a cost of Rs 6B, to replace the aging housing at Madiwela. Srawasthi Mandiraya
The Srawasthi Mandiraya is the primary office complex of the Western Provincial Council, located in Cinnamon Gardens, a suburb of Colombo. Built in 1913, it saw use for most of its lifetime as a hostel for Members of Parliament from outside Colombo who were attending Parliamentary sittings. It is located along Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha (formerly Edinburgh Crescent). History The mansion was built in 1913 along the lines of a Tuscan villa by veterinary surgeon and philanthropist W. A. de Silva, member of the Legislative Council of Ceylon and the State Council of Ceylon, and who served as Minister of Health (1936 - 1942). One of the largest houses in Colombo at the time, Dr de Silva hosted many dignitaries such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Rabindranath Tagore and Lord Donoughmore. He later gifted the mansion to the nation. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
The is a full-size four-wheel drive vehicle in the Land Cruiser range produced by the Japanese automaker Toyota. The Prado is one of the smaller vehicles in the Land Cruiser range.
