Malt
Malt is germinated cereal grain that has been dried in a process known as " malting". The grain is made to germinate by soaking in water and is then halted from germinating further by drying with hot air. Malted grain is used to make beer, whisky, malted milk, malt vinegar, confections such as Maltesers and Whoppers, flavored drinks such as Horlicks, Ovaltine, and Milo, and some baked goods, such as malt loaf, bagels, and Rich Tea biscuits. Malted grain that has been ground into a coarse meal is known as "sweet meal". Malting grain develops the enzymes (α-amylase, β-amylase) required for modifying the grains' starches into various types of sugar, including monosaccharide glucose, disaccharide maltose, trisaccharide maltotriose, and higher sugars called maltodextrines. Gerald Melzer (born 13 July 1990) is a professional Austrian tennis player. As a qualifier, he reached the semifinals of Munich in 2015. He achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 68 in November 2016. He is the younger brother of top Austrian tennis player Jürgen Melzer (hence his nickname, Mini Melts) and is the son of Rudolf Melzer, an Austrian businessman and mayor of Deutsch-Wagram, and Michaela, a saleswoman. Career Gerald Melzer has primarily spent his time on the Futures circuit, while also playing challengers and several doubles events with his brother. Hagen Melzer (born 16 June 1959, in Bautzen) is a former East German middle and long-distance runner who specialised in the 3000 m steeplechase. He won the gold medal at the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart. A year later he won the silver medal at the 1987 World Championships in Rome, where he set a national record at 8:10.32 minutes. This remained his career best time, and places him second on the German all-time performers list behind Damian Kallabis, who ran in 8:09.48 minutes in 1999. Iveta Benešová () (formerly Melzer, cs, Melzerová; born 1 February 1983) is a Czech former tennis player. She began playing tennis at age of seven and turned professional in 1998. She won two WTA Tour singles and 14 doubles tournaments, and one Grand Slam title in mixed doubles, partnering with Jürgen Melzer at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships. Manfred Melzer (28 February 1944 – 9 August 2018) was a German bishop of the Roman Catholic Church. Appointed by Pope Benedict XVI, Melzer was serving as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Cologne from 1995 to 2015. Early life Born in Solingen-Ohligs, Melzer studied in Bonn, Freiburg im Breisgau and Cologne theology. He was ordained to the Priesthood on 1 February 1972 by Cardinal Joseph Höffner, the then Archbishop of Cologne at the Cologne Cathedral. Richard Melzer (born December 8, 1979) is an American former professional basketball player who has played in the Australian National Basketball League, the German Bundesliga, NBA D-League, Continental Basketball Association, as well as stints in France and Israel. Václav Melzer (26 August 1878 – 1 May 1968) was a Czech teacher and mycologist, who was part of a group of Czech teachers who became mycologists at the beginning of the 20th century that also included figures such as Jindřich Kučera, Rudolf Veselý, and František Tyttl. A substantial part of his life was spent living and working in Domažlice. Melzer's scientific work was devoted mainly to ''Russula'', in which he published the first Czech monograph of this basidiomycete genus.
