Melvyn Ong
Melvyn Ong Su Kiat (born 1975) is a Singaporean lieutenant-general who has been serving as Chief of Defence Force since 2018. Prior to his appointment as Chief of Defence Force, he served as Chief of Army between 2015 and 2018. Education Ong was educated at Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and National Junior College, before being awarded the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Overseas Scholarship in 1994 to study at the London School of Economics, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science with second class honours degree. He also completed a Master of Science degree in economics at the London School of Economics in 1998. Ong attended the Indonesian Army Command and General Staff College in Bandung in 2005. He also completed the United States Army's Infantry Officer Course in Fort Benning, Georgia in 1998. Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Service Medal
The Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Service Medal is awarded to a member of the SAF who was engaged in service in an area outside Singapore after 9 August 1970 which satisfies one or more of the following conditions: * Service of 96 hours or more in operations; * Aggregate service of 30 days or more, in a period of 12 months when employed in support of any unit engaged in operations; * Service of 14 days or more when engaged in operations involving the keeping of peace, restoring of law and order, provision of humanitarian aid or rescue, or relief operations in support of any foreign government. A bronze star is awarded if the service involves hostile action or considerable personal risk. Prior to 1999, separate ribbons indicated service on Operational or Non-operational service. The Singapore Armed Forces Good Service Medal is awarded to a regular career soldier of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) who has satisfactorily completed 5 years of dedicated service. The medal may be awarded to NSmen who have served 2 years of National Service Full-time (NSF) and at least 3 high-key In-Camp Training (ICT) served satisfactorily as NSmen. The criteria are based on a reservist's good attitude towards National Service, in-camp training competency performance and meaningful contributions to the SAF. The Long Service Medal (Military) is a decoration awarded to a member of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) (regardless of regular or NSmen status) who has completed 25 years of continuous service. Previously, regular servicemen were eligible for the Pingat Bakti Setia (Long Service Award) in line with other government employees, however NSmen were not eligible. Perry Lim Cheng Yeow is a Singaporean former lieutenant-general who served as Chief of Defence Force between 2015 and 2018. Education Lim studied at Raffles Institution and won the President's Scholarship and the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship in 1991. He studied at Christ's College, Cambridge, where he received a starred first in mechanical engineering. The National Day Parade (NDP) is an annual parade held in Singapore to commemorate its independence. 2011 Christchurch Earthquake
A major earthquake occurred in Christchurch on Tuesday 22 February 2011 at 12:51 p.m. local time (23:51 UTC, 21 February). The () earthquake struck the entire of the Canterbury region in the South Island, centred south-east of the central business district.
