Melvin F. Chubb Jr.
Lieutenant General Melvin Fuller Chubb Jr. (January 1, 1934 – July 25, 2014) served as commander of the Electronic Systems Division, Air Force Systems Command, Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. Chubb was born in Joplin, Missouri, in 1934. He graduated from high school at the Wentworth Military Academy, Lexington, Missouri, in 1951 and continued his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Chubb left school to become an aviation cadet in March 1954, but later completed a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station, in 1962. He earned master's degrees in astro-engineering from the University of Southern California, in 1965 and in business administration from The George Washington University, in 1972. Joplin is a city in Jasper County, Missouri, Jasper and Newton County, Missouri, Newton counties in the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Missouri. Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base located about northeast of Rapid City, South Dakota, just north of the town of Box Elder, South Dakota, Box Elder. The Commendation Medal is a mid-level United States military decoration presented for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service. Each branch of the United States Armed Forces issues its own version of the Commendation Medal, with a fifth version existing for acts of joint military service performed under the Department of Defense. The Commendation Medal was originally only a service ribbon and was first awarded by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard in 1943. Meritorious Service Medal (United States)
__NOTOC__ The Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) is a military award presented to members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguished themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the United States subsequent to January 16, 1969. The MSM was previously awarded as a decoration for achievement during peacetime, but effective September 11, 2001 this decoration may also be bestowed in lieu of the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in a designated combat theater.
