Melodifestivalen 2002
Melodifestivalen 2002 was the selection for the 42nd song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 41st time that this system of picking a song had been used. Five heats had taken place to select the ten songs for the final, in Växjö, Norrköping, Sundsvall, Falun and a Second Chance round in Stockholm. The final was broadcast on SVT1 and Sveriges Radio's P4 network. The introduction of the heats and the allowance of songs in English resulted in a marked increase in voters. The final was watched by 3,720,000 people, with 926,318 votes cast in the final. Schedule Heats The heats for Melodifestivalen 2002 began on 19 January 2002. Ten songs from these heats qualified for the final on 1 March 2002. This was the first year that a heat format had been used for the competition. Kristin Kaspersen
Kristin Kaspersen (born 30 September 1969) is a Swedish-Norwegian television host who is working for the Swedish media company TV4 Group, which is the owner of the television channel TV4 (Sweden), TV4. She is the daughter of Lill-Babs and Kjell Kaspersen and was raised in Stockholm. Kaspersen began her television career in the early 1990s after completing an internship on one of Robert Aschberg's programs. She has hosted many popular television shows since then, and is "one of Sweden's famous television faces" according to a 2009 article in ''Sydsvenskan''. Kaspersen is one of the hosts of ''Nyhetsmorgon'' on TV4. Early life Kaspersen was born in Oslo, Norway, and is the daughter of Swedish singer and actress Lill-Babs and Norwegian football goalkeeper Kjell Kaspersen. She grew up in Stockholm with her mother, but often visited her father in Oslo during her free time. Kaspersen made her first acting performance when she was eleven years old. Världen Utanför (song)
Världen utanför is a song written by Calle Kindbom and Thomas G:son, and performed by Barbados during Melodifestivalen 2002, participating in the first semifinal in Växjö on 19 January 2002, from where it made it further through " Vinnarnas val" and finally to the finals inside the Stockholm Globe Arena, where it ended up 4th. The song appeared on the band's album with the same name. The single, which was released the same year, peaked at 14th position at the Swedish singles chart, and the song became a major hit. The song also charted at Svensktoppen ''Svensktoppen'' () is a weekly record chart airing at Sveriges Radio. Until January 2003, the songs had to be in the Swedish language. Barbados (band)
Barbados is a Swedish dansband, formed in 1992, who have had several Swedish chart successes. The band, with lead singer Magnus Carlsson, became widely known after their second place in Melodifestivalen 2000. The band has replaced lead singer three times. First Magnus Carlsson left the group in 2002 and later became a member of the group Alcazar. Mathias Holmgren, a former Fame Factory student was the new lead singer, but was forced to leave the band in 2004. Chris Lindh replaced him, before leaving the band in 2007. The current lead singer is Björn Lagerström. The band won its first Grammis Award in February of the year 2000. Excellence was a Swedish pop girl group from 2001 created through the TV programme Popstars on Kanal 5. The group scored a number one album on the Swedish Charts, as well as five top 10 singles, and entered Melodifestivalen 2002. They also collaborated with Markoolio on the official Swedish song for the 2002 Winter Olympics "Vi ska vinna!" Their last single was ‘We can dance’ which reached top 10 on the charts. Avicii Arena, originally known as Stockholm Globe Arena and previously as Ericsson Globe, but commonly referred to in Swedish simply as Globen (; "the Globe"), is an indoor arena located in Stockholm Globe City, Johanneshov district of Stockholm, Sweden.
