Melodi Grand Prix
Melodi Grand Prix (), commonly known as Grand Prix and MGP, sometimes as Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix ( no, Norsk Melodi Grand Prix), is an annual music competition organised by Norwegian public broadcaster Norsk Rikskringkasting (NRK). It determines the country's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest, and has been staged almost every year since 1960. The festival has produced three Eurovision winners, a non-winning televote winner and nine top-five placings for Norway at the contest. However, Norway holds the record for the number of entries who have come last since entering Eurovision; 11 in all. Despite this, the competition still makes considerable impact on music charts in Norway and other Nordic countries, with the 2008 winner topping the Norwegian charts. Anita Thallaug
Anita Thallaug (born 14 February 1938) is a Norwegian actress and singer. Biography Thallaug was born in Bærum on 14 February 1938. She has featured in musicals, cinema and TV programs. Under the name Vesla Rolfsen, at the age of seven, she was performing at the Spider theatre in Oslo. She featured frequently in NRK children's programs of the 1950s. Thallaug was the Norwegian contestant in the Eurovision Song Contest 1963, with the song "Solhverv", where she finished 13th (last). She was the first of four Norwegian entrants to score no points in the competition. Anita Thallaug is the younger sister of opera singer Edith Thallaug. Melodi Grand Prix 1967
Norway was represented by Kirsti Sparboe, with the song "Dukkemann", at the Eurovision Song Contest 1967, which took place on 8 April in Vienna. "Dukkemann" was chosen as the Norwegian entry at the Melodi Grand Prix on 25 February. This was the second of Sparboe's three Eurovision appearances for Norway. Final The MGP was held at Centralteatret in Oslo, hosted by Jan Voigt. Ten performers and five songs took part in the final with each song sung twice by different singers, once with a small combo and once with a full orchestra. The winning song was chosen by voting from ten regional juries. At Eurovision On the night of the final Sparboe performed 13th in the running order, following Spain and preceding Monaco. Ã…se Kleveland
Ã…se Maria Kleveland (born 18 March 1949) is a Norwegian singer, guitarist, politician and activist. A well-known folk singer and traditional guitarist in Norway, she was appointed Minister of Culture in Norway in 1990, and held the position until 1996, representing the Labour Party under the Gro Harlem Brundtland administration. She was also president of the Swedish Film Institute from 1999 to 2006. In June 2007 she became chairman of the board of Human-Etisk Forbund, the Norwegian humanist organization, a position she held until 2013. Personal life Kleveland was born in Stockholm, Sweden to Eva Hansson, a bookkeeper from Sweden, and Olaf Kleveland, a civil engineer from Norway who had fled to Sweden in 1943 because of the Nazi occupation and found refuge with relatives. Jolly Kramer-Johansen (7 May 1902 – 17 September 1968) was a Norwegian composer. Kirsti Sparboe
Kirsti Sparboe (born 7 December 1946) is a Norwegian musical performer and an actress. Most of her musical career has been built on participation in the widely-popular Eurovision Song Contest in which she competed three times and scored a grand total of four points. Kirsti Sparboe was born on 7 December 1946 in Tromsø, Norway. She first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965 when she was 18, with the song " Karusell", which came in 13th place. She then participated in the 1966 Norwegian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song "Gi Meg Fri", which came in second. In 1967, her song " Dukkemann" came in 14th place. She also participated in the 1968 Norwegian pre-selection, and would have gone on to represent Norway in 1968, but the song she performed ("Jag har aldri vært så glad i no'en som deg") was disqualified after there were accusations that it was a plagiarism of a popular Cliff Richard song called "Summer Holiday." Sigurd Jansen
Sigurd Jansen (born 4 March 1932) is a Norwegian composer, pianist and conductor. Biography Sigurd Alf Jansen was born in Horten, in Vestfold county, Norway. He studied classical music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. He was a teacher of piano from 1957 to 1962. Jansen has worked as an orchestra leader at Chat Noir, and as jazz pianist, orchestra leader and arranger on a number of recordings. Since 1957 he has worked in the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation where he is responsible for the music of a variety of TV programs and movies. His main occupation is to compose, arrange, conduct and play piano. Sigurd Jansen is also a composer and has won several awards for his compositions. Arne Bendiksen
Arne Joachim Bendiksen (19 October 1926 – 26 March 2009) was a Norwegian singer, composer and producer, described as "the father of pop music" in Norway. Career Bendiksen was born in Bergen, Norway. In the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, he was a major figure in Norwegian popular music. First, as a member of the group The Monn Keys, later as soloist and composer for other artists. Besides writing his own songs, he also translated many foreign hits into Norwegian, making them Norwegian hits. Arne Bendiksen took part in the Norwegian Eurovision Song Contest selections several times, both as an artist and as a songwriter.
