Melberger Award
The Melberger Award was given annually to an outstanding U.S. college football player in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The award was named after Clifford Melberger, a captain of the 1960 Bucknell University football team, and is presented by Diversified Information Technologies, which Mr. Melberger leads as president. The Melberger had been one of two awards given to Division III football players, the other being the better-known Gagliardi Trophy. The focus of the two awards has historically been slightly different. The Gagliardi factors in community service, academics, and athletics; the Melberger is, at least theoretically, presented to the best athlete. In recent years the Melberger has fallen into disfavor due to poor publicity and coordination by the firm which now sponsors the award. Hartwick College is a private liberal arts college in Oneonta, New York. The institution's origin is rooted in the founding of Hartwick Seminary in 1797 through the will of John Christopher Hartwick. Ben McLaughlin
Ben McLaughlin (born September 22, 1986) is a former quarterback and Hall of Fame inductee for the Louisiana College Wildcats football team, the Louisiana Swashbucklers of the Southern Indoor Football League, and the 2011 Gold Medal winning United States national American football team. High school McLaughlin was the starting quarterback for the Dierks High School Outlaws. He was a two-time All-state football player, and a three-sport athlete. He became the starter during his sophomore year in 2002, and led his team to an undefeated season in 2004, losing a close game in the Arkansas state playoffs to finish with an 11-1 season record. Alex Tanney (born November 11, 1987) is an American football coach and former quarterback who is the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Monmouth College and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012. Nate Kmic (born June 22, 1987) is a former professional American football running back. He played college football at Mount Union College after graduating from Delta High School in rural Delta, Ohio In his college career, he set rushing records for both NCAA Division III as well as the NCAA all-division record. At Mount Union, Kmic won three NCAA Division III football championships and was a three-time All-American and three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference running back. Jason Boltus (born August 21, 1986) is a professional American football quarterback who is currently a free agent. Boltus was signed as a street free agent by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League in 2009. He played Division III college football for the Hartwick Hawks, where he was also the team's punter. College career Boltus attended University at Albany, SUNY after graduation from high school, where he continued his football career.
