Mek Languages
The Mek languages are a well established family of Papuan languages spoken by the Mek peoples. They form a branch of the Trans–New Guinea languages (TNG) in the classifications of Stephen Wurm (1975) and of Malcolm Ross (2005). Mek, then called Goliath, was identified by M. Bromley in 1967. It was placed in TNG by Wurm (1975). Languages The Mek languages form three dialect chains (Heeschen 1998): * Eastern: Ketengban (including Okbap, Omban, Bime, Onya), Una (Goliath), Eipomek * Northern: Kosarek Yale–Nipsan, Nalca * Western: Korupun-Sela (including Dagi, Sisibna, Deibula) Proto-language Phonemes Usher (2020) reconstructs the consonant and vowel inventories as 'perhaps' as follows: : : : Pronouns Pronouns are: : The difference between the two 3pl forms is not known. 2pl and 3pl have parallels in Momuna /kun tun/. Mek (comics)
''Mek'' is a three-issue comic book mini-series published in 2003 by WildStorm, written by Warren Ellis, pencilled by Steve Rolston and inked by Al Gordon. Publication history When interviewed about ''Mek'', Warren Ellis explained that he felt that mechanical augmentation was "already happening", quoting Stelarc and the work of Kevin Warwick as examples. In the same interview, he stated his opinion that "What is art and experiment today will be high-end consumer goods in ten years, and cheap enough to be street goods in twenty years" and that "William Gibson said it smartest: the street finds its own use for things. And what is experimental, medical or military eventually finds its way down there." The original three issue comic book series was published from January to March 2003 by Homage Comics, an imprint of Wildstorm Comics. The series was later collected as one half of a 'flipbook' format trade paperback, accompanied by another Warren Ellis miniseries, ''Reload'' (). Plot T ...

MEK Compound
Camp Fallujah (formerly known as the MEK (''Mujahedin-E Khalq'') Compound) is a large compound in Fallujah, Iraq formerly used by the U.S. Marines from 2004 to 2009. History Before the Marine occupation, the Iranian dissident group called Mujahideen-e-Khalq used the MEK as a training camp, but turned it over to the U.S. Army 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment on May 11, 2003 after the Mujahideen-e-Khalq surrender. The 82nd Airborne Division took over the facility in August 2003 and created ''Forward Operating Base St. Mere''. On March 24, 2004, the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force took control from the 82nd Airborne and renamed the ''FOB'', Camp Fallujah in order to better associate the camp with the local Iraqi city. On January 12, 2009, the Government of Iraq took control of the compound from the United States military.http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/library/news/iraq/2009/01/iraq-090112-mnfi01.htm @ GlobalSecurity.org The camp is adjacent to the other major U.S. base in Falluja ...

Master Encryption Key
This glossary lists types of keys as the term is used in cryptography, as opposed to door locks. Terms that are primarily used by the U.S. National Security Agency are marked ''(NSA)''. For classification of keys according to their usage see cryptographic key types. * 40-bit key - key with a length of 40 bits, once the upper limit of what could be exported from the U.S. and other countries without a license. Considered very insecure. ''See'' key size for a discussion of this and other lengths. * authentication key - Key used in a keyed-hash message authentication code, or HMAC. * benign key - (NSA) a key that has been protected by encryption or other means so that it can be distributed without fear of its being stolen. Also called BLACK key. * content-encryption key (CEK) a key that may be further encrypted using a KEK, where the content may be a message, audio, image, video, executable code, etc. * crypto ignition key An NSA key storage device ( KSD-64) shaped to look like an ...

Methyl Ethyl Ketone
Butanone, also known as methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), is an organic compound with the formula CH3C(O)CH2CH3. This colourless liquid ketone has a sharp, sweet odor reminiscent of acetone. It is produced industrially on a large scale, but occurs in nature only in trace amounts.Wilhelm Neier, Guenter Strehlke "2-Butanone" in Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, Wiley-VCH, Weinheim, 2002. It is partially soluble in water, and is commonly used as an industrial solvent. It is an isomer of another solvent, tetrahydrofuran. Production Butanone may be produced by oxidation of 2-butanol. The dehydrogenation of 2-butanol is catalysed by copper, zinc, or bronze: :CH3CH(OH)CH2CH3 → CH3C(O)CH2CH3 + H2 This is used to produce approximately 700 million kilograms yearly. Other syntheses that have been examined but not implemented include Wacker oxidation of 2-butene and oxidation of isobutylbenzene, which is analogous to the industrial production of acetone. The cumene process ca ...

Mitogen-activated Protein Kinase Kinase
Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (also known as MAP2K, MEK, MAPKK) is a dual-specificity kinase enzyme which phosphorylates mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). MAP2K is classified as . There are seven genes: * (a.k.a. MEK1) * (a.k.a. MEK2) * (a.k.a. MKK3) * (a.k.a. MKK4) * (a.k.a. MKK5) * (a.k.a. MKK6) * (a.k.a. MKK7) The activators of p38 (MKK3 and MKK6), JNK (MKK4 and MKK7), and ERK (MEK1 and MEK2) define independent MAP kinase signal transduction pathways. The acronym MEK derives from MAPK/ERK Kinase. Role in melanoma MEK is a member of the MAPK signaling cascade that is activated in melanoma. When MEK is inhibited, cell proliferation is blocked and apoptosis (controlled cell death) is induced. See also * Signal transduction * MAP kinase * MAP kinase kinase kinase * MAP kinase kinase kinase kinase Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinase (MAP4K) is a family of proteins involved in cellular signal transduction. * MAP4K1 (aka HPK1) * ...

Mu Epsilon Kappa
Mu Epsilon Kappa () is an organization that "strives to create a safe and accepting environment of inter- and intra-cultural communication in which people are welcome to express themselves and explore their interests without fear of ridicule or persecution". History The Mu Epsilon Kappa Society started at the University of North Texas in the 1980s as an anime club called Northstar. The name later changed to Mu Epsilon Kappa in 1995 after it was taken over by recently transferred students who had been members of the club by the same name at Texas Tech University, Texas Tech. Eventually the two clubs, despite the shared name, broke off affiliation. In 2003, a new set of officers were elected on the promise of reforming the club—instituting a more democratic system, expanding club events, and prompting the club to begin taking part in campus events and service projects. Over the next few years, the club membership expanded from a dozen to over a hundred members. In 2007, they jo ...

Mojahedin-e Khalq
The People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), also known as Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK) or Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) ( fa, سازمان مجاهدين خلق ايران, sâzmân-e mojâhedīn-e khalq-e īrân), is an Iranian political- militant organization. It advocates overthrowing the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and installing its own government. Its revolutionary interpretation of Islam contrasts with the conservative Islam of the traditional clergy as well as the populist version developed by Ayatollah Khomeini in the 1970s. It is also Iran's largest and most active political opposition group. Mobile Einsatzkommandos
''Spezialeinsatzkommando'' (SEK, "Special Task Force") are police tactical units of each of the 16 German State Police forces. Along with the ''Mobile Einsatzkommando'' (MEK), ''Personenschutzkommando'' ( bodyguards), and the ''Verhandlungsgruppe'' (negotiation teams in some states), they are part of the police ''Spezialeinheiten'' of each state. Mainly unrecognized by the media and public, the main missions of SEK units are to serve high-risk arrest warrants and to deal with barricaded suspects. Hostage sieges, kidnappings, and raids also belong to their missions as well as other scenarios like personal security details for VIPs or witnesses. Since the 1970s, each SEK has handled several thousand deployments. The front-runner is the SEK of the Berlin Police with up to 500 deployments a year, an average of 1.4 deployments a day. The comparable unit of the German Federal Police is the GSG 9. History In 1974, the first SEK unit was raised in police forces of the state of Nort ...
