Meitei (), also known as Manipuri (, ), is a Tibeto-Burman language of north-eastern India. It is spoken by around 1.8 million people, predominantly in the state of Manipur, but also by smaller communities in the rest of the country and in parts of neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh. It is native to the Meitei people, and within Manipur it serves as an official language and a lingua franca. It was used as a court language in the historic Manipur Kingdom and is presently included among the 22 Scheduled languages of India, scheduled languages of India. Meitei Architecture
Meitei architecture or Manipuri architecture is the architecture produced by the Meitei speaking people, whose culture flourished in the Kangleipak kingdom and its neighbouring kingdoms from the middle of the fifteenth century BC. The Meitei architecture is best known for its temples (Laishang, Kiyong, Thellon), found scattered in the Kangleipak (present day Manipur). Yendrembam Denechandra Meitei (born 28 March 1994) is an Indian professional footballer who last played as a defender for Indian Super League club Punjab. Club career Early career Born in Manipur, Meitei started playing football from the age of 10 years. He initially trained at a local stadium to improve his technical ability. He eventually managed to make it into his district team and then the Manipur football team in the youth nationals. Then in 2008 he was signed by Mohun Bagan A.C. to join their academy. Ningombam Bupenda Meitei (born 6 April 1987) is an Indian writer, essayist and poet in English and Meitei languages. Romi Meitei (born 19 September 1976) is an Indian film director and lyricist who works in Manipuri films. He is a recipient of several awards at several film festivals organised in India and abroad and has directed movies for around two decades.
