Laurentian Hills, Ontario
Laurentian Hills is a municipality in Eastern Ontario, Canada, on the Ottawa River in Renfrew County. It surrounds (by land) Deep River on the Ontario side of the river. The town is home to the Nuclear Power Demonstration nuclear power plant. The prototype nuclear power plant was operational 1962-1987 and has since then been shutdown for over 30 years, waiting for permanent disposal of the radioactive nuclear components. The municipality was formed on January 1, 2000, when the United Townships of Rolph, Buchanan, Wylie and McKay and the Village of Chalk River were merged. Briane Harris (born March 11, 1992 as Briane Meilleur) is a Canadian curler from Petersfield, Manitoba. She currently plays lead on Team Kerri Einarson from Gimli, Manitoba. Currently, the Einarson team are the three-time reigning Scotties Tournament of Hearts champions, winning the title in , and . She has also won three Grand Slam of Curling events with the Einarson rink. Career Harris had a fairly successful junior career playing third for Breanne Knapp, winning the Manitoba junior title in 2010 and 2011 and competing in the 2010 and 2011 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. Hubert Meilleur is a politician from Quebec, Canada. Meilleur was the mayor of Mirabel. Mayor He was first elected as mayor in 1987 and was re-elected in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007. Under his tenure, Mirabel's population increased, going from 15,000 to 34,000. As mayor, Meilleur opposed the decision, announced in December 2006 by the government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, to return 4,450 hectares of farmland expropriated in 1969 to build Mirabel airport. Jean-Baptiste Meilleur (May 8, 1796 – December 6, 1878) was a doctor, educator and political figure in Lower Canada, Canada East, and Quebec. He was born at Petite-Côte in Saint-Laurent, Lower Canada on the Island of Montreal in 1796, the son of Jean Meilleur, and studied at the Petit Séminaire de Montréal and an English school in Montreal. Meilleur studied at the Castleton Academy of Medicine and Middlebury College at Middlebury in Vermont and then at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, receiving an M.D. in 1825. He was qualified to practice in Lower Canada the following year and set up practice at L'Assomption. In 1827, he married Joséphine Éno, dit Deschamps, the daughter of Antoine Hénault. He served as a lieutenant in the local militia, later being commissioned as a surgeon for the militia. Jens Meilleur (born January 11, 1993) is a retired Canadian-German professional ice hockey player. Playing career Meilleur was a member of the Winnipeg Hawks Bantam 1 squad in the Winnipeg AAA league in 2007-08, and then played for the Central Plains Capitals in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League the following season. Madeleine Meilleur (born November 22, 1948) is a Canadian nurse, lawyer and former politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 to 2016.
