Course The Mehrbach rises in the north of the Westerwald, north of Werkhausen, in the vicinity of the border between Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia, and flows in a southerly direction. On its way to the Wied (river), Wied it initially crosses the territories of Werkhausen, Hasselbach (Westerwald), Hasselbach and Forstmehren. It then forms the boundary between the parishes of Ersfeld and Kraam and flows through the village of Mehren (Westerwald), Mehren in a southerly direction. South of Hirz-Maulsbach to its confluence, the Mehrbach forms the boundary between the districts of Landkreis Neuwied, Neuwied on the right and Landkreis Altenkirchen (Westerwald), Altenkirchen on the left, apart from a break near . Westerwald
The Westerwald (; literally 'Western forest') is a low mountain range on the right bank of the river Rhine in the German federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a part of the Rhenish Massif ( or Rhenish Slate Mountains). Its highest elevation, at 657 m above sea level, is the Fuchskaute in the High Westerwald. Tourist attractions include the (394 metres), site of some Celtic ruins from La Tène times (5th to 1st century BC), found in the community of the same name, and Limburg an der Lahn, a town with a mediaeval centre. The geologically old, heavily eroded range of the Westerwald is in its northern parts overlaid by a volcanic upland made of Neogene basalt layers. Neuwied () is a district (''Kreis'') in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Rhein-Sieg, Altenkirchen, Westerwaldkreis, Mayen-Koblenz, Ahrweiler. History The district was created in 1816 when the area became part of the Prussian Rhine province. In 1822 the district Linz was merged into the district. Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park
The Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park (german: Naturpark Rhein-Westerwald) is a nature park in Germany that covers an area of around 470 km2 to the east of the River Rhine and in the north of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate between Neuwied and Unkel. It extends from the Rhine over its eastern bank terraces up to the first hill ridge of the Lower Westerwald. The Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park is over 60 years old, making it one of the oldest in Germany. It was founded in 1962 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012.
