Megasurcula Howei
''Megasurcula howei'' is an extinct species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Pseudomelatomidae, the turrids and allies. Description The length of the shell attains 36 mm, its diameter 23.6 mm. This high-spired, biconic species differs from '' Megasurcula condonana'' (Anderson and Martin, 1914) by having a smoothly conic spire and relatively narrower body whorl. When the body whorl angulation is used as a point of reference, in non-apertural view, the upper cone of ''M. howei'' is relatively higher than the lower cone, whereas the reverse is true in specimens of the stout-shelled ''M. condonana''. Further differences are the more acute sutural angle and the concave profile of ''M. condonana''. It is closely related to † '' Megasurcula guayasensis'' of the Miocene in Ecuador, but differs by being less slender, a bit taller and less finely noded.

Megasurcula Condonana
''Megasurcula condonana'' is an extinct species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Pseudomelatomidae, the turrids and allies. Description The length of the shell attains 32 mm, its diameter 18.3 mm. The shell shows a characteristic stout biconic profile and 11-12 strong nodes encircling the body whorl. The Kern River specimens differ somewhat by having a uniformly lower spire with sutures riding up higher onto preceding whorls so that only the nodes on the body whorl are exposed.Miocene Gastropods and Biostratigraphy of the Kern River Area, California; United States Geological Survey Professional Paper 642 : ''Megasurcula condonana''

''Megasurcula wynoocheensis'' is an extinct species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Pseudomelatomidae, the turrids and allies. The name originates from the Wynoochee Valley of Washington state. Description The length of the shell attains 43 mm, its diameter 21.4 mm. This is a slender, high-spired turrid with a strongly concave whorl profile and sutures riding high upon the vertical segment of the preceding whorls.Miocene Gastropods and Biostratigraphy of the Kern River Area, California; United States Geological Survey Professional Paper 642 : Megasurcula wynoocheensis

Megasurcula Tremperiana
''Megasurcula tremperiana'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Pseudomelatomidae, the turrids and allies. Taxonomy There is some confusion about the accepted name for this species. The website Gastropods.com considers this species a synonym of ''Mangelia carpenteri'' (Folin, L. de, 1867) It was also considered a synonym of ''Bathytoma tremperiana'' (Dall, 1911), itself considered by W.H. Dall a synonym of ''Cryptoconus tremperianus'' Dall, 1911. But then WoRMS considers this last name a synonym of ''Megasurcula carpenteriana ''Megasurcula carpenteriana'' (Gabb, 1865), also known as Carpenter's turrid, is a species of medium-sized predatory sea snail, a marine (ocean), marine gastropod mollusc in the family (biology), family Pseudomelatomidae, a family previously lu ...'' (Original description) The shell is broadly fusiform with an acute spire. The outline of the spire is moderately convex. The shell contains 8½ whorls, convex anteriorly, slightly concave near the suture, the margin at the suture strongly appressed. The suture is distinct. The aperture is longer than the spire. The color of the shell is orange to cream with a broad, spiral, brown band below the suture and nine or ten narrow, clearly defined bands on the body whorl, one or two of these also visible on the spire, bands nearly as wide as the lighter interspaces.
