Megasporaceae
Megasporaceae are a family of fungi belonging to the order Pertusariales. Taxa are lichenized with green algae, and grow on rocks, often in maritime climates close to fresh water. Phylogenetic analysis has shown that this family is related to the Pertusariaceae, another family of lichens. The genus ''Aspicilia'' was moved here from the Hymeneliaceae. Genera Genera of this family include: * ''Aspicilia'' – ca. 200 spp. * '' Aspiciliella'' – 2 spp. * '' Circinaria'' – 31 spp. * '' Lobothallia'' – 17 spp. * '' Megaspora'' – 4 spp. * '' Oxneriaria'' – 9 spp. * '' Sagedia'' – 12 spp. * ''Teuvoa ''Teuvoa'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Megasporaceae. Aspicilia
''Aspicilia'' (sunken disk lichen) is a genus of mostly crustose areolate lichens that grow on rock. Most members have black apothecia discs that are slightly immersed in the areolas, hence the common name.Field Guide to California Lichens, Stephen Sharnoff, Yale University Press, 2014, Most of the species of this genus grow on calcareous and acidic rocks and most of the taxa prefer temperate and arctic habitats. Some members of the genus ''Aspicilia'' are pioneer species on granite and other hard rock, after which members of other lichen species may grow on them, such as members of '' Acarospora''.ACAROPSPORA, Lichen Flora of the Greater Sonoran Desert Region. Vol 3., Nash, T.H., Ryan, B.D., Gries, C., Bugartz, F., (eds.) 2001/ref> Description Members of this genus are weakly cracked to distinctly areolate, with a scattered to whole thallus, thalli. Teuvoa
''Teuvoa'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Megasporaceae. The genus was circumscribed in 2013 by Mohammad Sohrabi and Steven Leavitt with ''Teuvoa uxoris'' assigned as the type species. The genus was segregated from the large genus '' Aspicilia'' after molecular phylogenetic analysis revealed that the ''Aspicilia uxoris'' species group formed a monophyletic clade that represented an independent lineage within the Megasporaceae. Three species were initially placed in the genus; two additional species from China were added in 2018. ''Teuvoa'' is distinguished from ''Aspicilia'' by its small ascospores and conidia (the latter measuring 5–8  μm), and the lack of secondary metabolites. The genus name honours Finnish lichenologist Teuvo Ahti, "one of the prominent lichen taxonomists of the 20th century". Oxneriaria
''Oxneriaria'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Megasporaceae. It has nine species, all of which are saxicolous (rock-dwelling), crustose lichens. The genus was circumscribed in 2017 by Sergey Kondratyuk and László Lőkös to contain species formerly in the ''Aspicilia mashiginensis'' species group. This species, now the type of the genus, was first described scientifically by Alexander Zahlbruckner as ''Lecanora mashiginensis''. The genus name honours Ukrainian lichenologist Alfred Oxner, who, according to the authors, "provided important contribution '' ic' to taxonomy of aspicilioid lichens and to biodiversity of polar lichens". ''Oxneriaria'' is morphologically similar to ''Aspicilia'', but differs from this genus in its mostly radiating thallus with either a wrinkled or lobate zone around the margins, in its generally smaller ascospores, and in the presence of the lichen product substictic acid. Species in the genus have a polar and arctic–alpine An ...

Taxa Named By Helge Thorsten Lumbsch
In biology, a taxon (back-formation from ''taxonomy''; plural taxa) is a group of one or more populations of an organism or organisms seen by taxonomists to form a unit. Although neither is required, a taxon is usually known by a particular name and given a particular ranking, especially if and when it is accepted or becomes established. It is very common, however, for taxonomists to remain at odds over what belongs to a taxon and the criteria used for inclusion. If a taxon is given a formal scientific name, its use is then governed by one of the nomenclature codes specifying which scientific name is correct for a particular grouping. Initial attempts at classifying and ordering organisms (plants and animals) were set forth in Carl Linnaeus's system in ''Systema Naturae'', 10th edition (1758), as well as an unpublished work by Bernard and Antoine Laurent de Jussieu. The idea of a unit-based system of biological classification was first made widely available in 1805 in the intro ...

Helge Thorsten Lumbsch (born 1964) is a German-born lichenologist living in the United States. His research interests include the phylogeny, taxonomy, and phylogeography of lichen-forming fungi; lichen diversity; lichen chemistry and chemotaxonomy. He is the Associate Curator and Head of Cryptogams and Chair of the Department of Botany at the Field Museum of Natural History. Biography Lumbsch was born in Frankfurt in 1964. Interested in lichens already as a schoolboy, he studied natural sciences at the University of Marburg, under the tutelage of Aino Henssen. He received his diploma in 1989, with a dissertation titled ''Ontogenetisch-systematische Studien der Trapeliaceae und verwandter Familien (Lichenisierte Ascomyceten)'' ("Ontogenic-systematic studies of the Trapeliaceae and related families (lichenized ascomycetes"). After Henssen's retirement in 1990, he transferred to the University in Essen, where he worked on the ''Lecanora subfusca'' group in Australasia, a subject t ...
