Megan Anwyl
Megan Irene Anwyl (born 19 January 1962) is a former Australian politician. She was a Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, representing Kalgoorlie from 1996 to 2001. Anwyl was born in Melbourne, Victoria. She qualified as a solicitor and arrived in Western Australia in 1986. In 1996 she was elected to the Legislative Assembly in a by-election; she was later Shadow Minister for Family and Children's Services, Youth and Volunteer Services from 1997 to 1999. She held her seat until her defeat at the 2001 state election. She was the only Labor incumbent to be defeated at an election that saw Labor win a decisive victory. However, Anwyl only led Liberal challenger Matt Birney by eight votes on the first count, and lost when One Nation preferences flowed overwhelmingly to Birney. The Australian Labor Party (Western Australian Branch), commonly known as WA Labor, is the Western Australian branch of the Australian Labor Party. Ian Taylor (Australian Politician)
Ian Frederick Taylor (born 15 March 1949) is a former Australian politician and Western Australian Deputy Premier and Opposition Leader. Taylor was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly in 1981 as the Labor Party (ALP) member for Kalgoorlie. In 1986, he was appointed Minister for Health and also held the Aged Care, Lands and Consumer Affairs portfolios at various times. Following Brian Burke's resignation in 1988, he became Minister for Police in Peter Dowding's ministry, and on Carmen Lawrence's ascension to the premiership in 1990 he became Deputy Premier and Minister for Finance (although his portfolio varied during this time) corresponding to Premier Lawrence also being the Treasurer. Labor was defeated at the 1993 state election and Taylor became Leader of the Opposition in February 1994 when Lawrence resigned to enter federal parliament. Matt Birney
Matthew John Birney (born 10 June 1969) was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2008, serving as Leader of the Opposition from 2005 to 2006. Birney was born in Sydney but comes from a family long established on the Western Australian goldfields, and has lived in the regional city of Kalgoorlie since childhood. His father, Jack Birney, was a Liberal member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1975 until his defeat in 1983. The younger Birney was educated at North Kalgoorlie Primary and Eastern Goldfields Senior High School.
