''Megamania'' is an Atari 2600 game by Steve Cartwright and published by Activision in 1982. Versions were released for the Atari 5200 and Atari 8-bit family in 1983. ''Megamania'' is similar to Sega's 1981 arcade title ''Astro Blaster''. Both games have nearly identical patterns of approaching enemies with the player relying on an "energy" meter. Glyn Anderson
Glyn Anderson has designed, programmed, and managed the production of video games starting with the Intellivision console. A musician as well as a programmer, he wrote the cross-platform sound and music driver used on many Activision games between 1989 and 1992, including ''Ghostbusters'' II and ''Lexi-Cross''. ''Activision Anthology'' is a compilation of most of the Atari 2600 games by Activision for various game systems. It also includes games that were originally released by Absolute Entertainment and Imagic, as well as various Homebrew (video games), homebrew games. The Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X versions are titled ''Activision Anthology: Remix Edition'', and include the most games. The PlayStation Portable version is titled ''Activision Hits Remixed''. The game features the original gameplay of the Atari 2600 Emulator, emulated on modern systems. Steve Cartwright is an American video game designer. He is best known as one of the original Activision game designers, credited with such games as ''Barnstorming'', ''Megamania'', ''Seaquest'' and ''Hacker''. The Tubes
The Tubes are a San Francisco-based rock band. Their eponymous 1975 debut album included the single "White Punks on Dope," while their 1983 single "She's a Beauty" was a top-10 U.S. hit and its music video was frequently played in the early days of MTV. The band also performed in the 1980 film '' Xanadu'', singing the rock portion of the cross-genre song "Dancin'" opposite a big band. ''Spider Fighter'' is a fixed shooter designed by Larry Miller for the Atari 2600 and published by Activision in 1982. According to the manual, Miller was "the newest addition to the Activision design team." He went on to create the Atari 2600 racing game ''Enduro'' for Activision, released in 1983. The object of ''Spider Fighter'' is to protect an orchard containing fruit—grapes, strawberries, oranges, and bananas—from four kinds of bugs. ''Digital Press'' described it as "much like the coin-op game ''Stratovox'' but w/o the voice." Gameplay In each level, the player must protect three pieces of fruit. Atari 5200
The Atari 5200 SuperSystem or simply Atari 5200 is a home video game console introduced in 1982 by Atari, Inc. as a higher-end complement for the popular Atari Video Computer System. The VCS was renamed to the Atari 2600 at the time of the 5200's launch. Created to compete with Mattel's Intellivision, the 5200 wound up a direct competitor of ColecoVision shortly after its release. While the Coleco system shipped with the first home version of Nintendo's ''Donkey Kong'', the 5200 included the 1978 arcade game ''Super Breakout'' which had already appeared on the Atari 8-bit family and Atari VCS in 1979 and 1981 respectively. ''Threshold'' is a space-themed fixed shooter written by Warren Schwader and Ken Williams for the Apple II and published by On-Line Systems in 1981. Inspired by Sega's ''Astro Blaster'' arcade video game, ''Threshold'' introduces many enemy ship types and wave formations as the game progresses. Reviewers found the variety distinguished the game from the many similar shoot 'em ups. Ports to other systems were released on ROM cartridge: Atari 8-bit family and VIC-20 in 1981, Commodore 64 in 1983, and ColecoVision and Thomson computers in 1984.
