Megalomania (Aqua Album)
''Megalomania'' is the third and most recent studio album by Danish-Norwegian band Aqua. It was released on October 3, 2011, by Universal Music Group and WaterWorks, over 11 years after the release of their second studio album, ''Aquarius'' (2000). The album peaked at number two in Denmark and was certified gold by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). Background After their split in 2001 Aqua announced their comeback on October 26, 2007, during a press conference. During the summer of 2008 Aqua played eight concerts in eight different cities as part of the one day music festival Grøn Koncert in Denmark. Aqua is a Danish-Norwegian Europop and Dance-pop band, best known for their 1997 multi-platinum crossover and novelty single "Barbie Girl". The group formed in 1989 as Joyspeed, and achieved international success around the globe in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The band released three albums: '' Aquarium'' in 1997, ''Aquarius'' in 2000 and '' Megalomania'' in 2011. The group sold an estimated 33 million albums and singles, making them the most profitable Danish band ever. The group managed to top the UK Singles Chart with three of their singles. Singles The lead single, "Cartoon Heroes", peaked at number one in Denmark and Norway, reached number 7 in the UK in February 2000 and later received top 10 positions globally except for the US where it failed to chart on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The second single, "Around the World (Aqua song), Around the World", also peaked at number one in Denmark, but only made number 26 in UK and did not sell highly in most regions. Bubblegum (also called bubblegum pop) is pop music in a catchy and upbeat style that is considered disposable, contrived, or marketed for children and adolescents. The term also refers to a rock and pop subgenre, originating in the United States in the late 1960s, that evolved from garage rock, novelty songs, and the Brill Building sound, and which was also defined by its target demographic of preteens and young teenagers.
