Meg Elison
Meg Elison is an American author and feminist essayist whose writings often incorporate the themes of female empowerment, body positivity, and gender flexibility. Her debut novel, ''The Book of the Unnamed Midwife'', won the 2014 Philip K. Dick Award, and her second novel, ''The Book of Etta'', was nominated for the award in 2017. Elison's work has appeared in several markets, including ''Fantasy & Science Fiction'', Terraform, McSweeney's Internet Tendency, Catapult, and ''Electric Literature''. Elison "grew up a military brat with the United States ARMY" where she "lived all over the country." At fourteen she began working to support herself. Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) is a public community college in Riverside County, California. It is part of the California Community College system and consists of five locations: San Jacinto (San Jacinto Campus), Menifee (Menifee Valley Campus), Banning (San Gorgonio Pass Campus) and Temecula (Temecula Valley Campus). The Otherwise Award, formerly known as the James Tiptree Jr. Award, is an American annual literary prize for works of science fiction or fantasy that expand or explore one's understanding of gender. It was initiated in February 1991 by science fiction authors Pat Murphy and Karen Joy Fowler, subsequent to a discussion at WisCon. In addition to the award itself, the judges publish what was originally known as the Tiptree Award Honor List, which they describe as "a strong part of the award's identity and ... used by many readers as a recommended reading list."
