Mefodiy (Kudriakov)
Metropolitan Mefodiy (born Valeriy Andriyovich Kudryakov, uk, Валерій Андрійович Кудряков; 11 March 1949 – 24 February 2015, Kyiv, Ukraine) was the Primate of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine. Biography Valeriy Kudryakov was born in Kopychyntsi, Husiatyn Raion, Ternopil Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. In 1969–71 he was in the Soviet Army. Later, in 1977–81 he studied at the Moscow Theological Seminary. On June 27, 1981 Metropolitan of Lviv and Ternopil Nicholas (Yurik) ordained Kudryakov to be a celibate deacon, and on the next day he was ordained as a priest. In 1985 Valeriy Kudriakov appointed him to the position of Dean in the Ternopil region. In 1986 he entered the extramural department of the Moscow Theological Academy in Zagorsk. Kopychyntsi
Kopychyntsi (, pl, Kopyczyńce, yi, קאפיטשיניץ, Koptchintz) is a small city in Chortkiv Raion, Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Kopychyntsi urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Kopychyntsi is the birthplace of Vasyl Ivanchuk, a chess grandmaster; Israel Jacob Kligler, who led the effort of eradicating malaria in Mandatory Palestine; and Pinhas Lavon, an Israeli politician. Population: History The city was first mentioned in 1340 as a village in the Polish powiat (county) of Terebovlia. With time it grew to become a town within the Land of Halicz, itself part of Podole Voivodeship of Poland and then the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was granted a city charter in 1564. Luhansk
Luhansk (, ; uk, Луганськ, ), also known as Lugansk (, ; russian: Луганск, ), is a city in what is internationally recognised as Ukraine, although it is administered by Russia as capital of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR). As of 2021, the population was estimated to be 399,559, making Luhansk the most populous city in the region and the 12th largest in Ukraine. Patriarch Dymytriy (Yarema)
Patriarch Dymytriy (Yarema) (9 December 1915 – 25 February 2000) was the second patriarch of Kyiv and all Ukraine, and of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC). Patriarch Dymytriy (Yarema) was successor to Patriarch Mstyslav (Skrypnyk) from 1993 to 2000 and was succeeded by Metropolitan Mefodiy (Kudryakov). Biography He was a renaissance man who had studied art and music in his younger years, a leader with a developed political conscious who was a member of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists in the 1930s. During World War II he was a prisoner of war in Germany. He was ordained to the diaconate on August 3, 1947, and to the priesthood on August 10 of that same year. St Andrew's Church, Kyiv
St Andrew's Church ( uk, Андріївська церква, ''Andriivska tserkva'') is an Orthodox church in Kyiv, constructed between 1747 and 1754 to a design by the Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli, a rare example of Elizabethan Baroque in Ukraine. Situated on a steep hill, where Andrew the Apostle is believed to have foretold the great future of the place as the cradle of Christianity in the Slavic lands, the church overlooks the historic Podil neighborhood. Since 1968, the building has been a museum, part of the National Sanctuary "Sophia of Kyiv" as a landmark of cultural heritage. UAOC
The Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC; uk, Українська автокефальна православна церква (УАПЦ), Ukrayinska avtokefalna pravoslavna tserkva (UAPC)) was one of the three major Eastern Orthodox churches in Ukraine. It was reestablished for the third time in 1990, right before the fall of the Soviet Union. The UAOC, in its contemporary form, has its origins in the Sobor of 1921 in Kyiv, shortly after Ukraine's newly found independence. Synod
A synod () is a council of a Christian denomination, usually convened to decide an issue of doctrine, administration or application. The word ''wikt:synod, synod'' comes from the meaning "assembly" or "meeting" and is analogous with the Latin word meaning "council".
