''Meet the Wife'' was a 1923 three act Broadway comedy written by Lynn Starling and produced by Stewart and French, Inc. It ran for 232 performances from November 26, 1923 to June 1924 at the Klaw Theatre. Mary Boland starred as inadvertent bigamist Gertrude Lennox, Humphrey Bogart as the juvenile lead reporter Gregory Brown and Clifton Webb as sporting youngblood Victor Staunton. It was set in Gertrude Lennox's living room. It was adapted as a feature film also titled '' Meet the Wife'' in 1931 starring Laura La Plante. Ernest E. Lawford (1870–1940) was an English stage and film actor. Biography Lawford made his theatrical debut in 1890 in London at the St James's Theatre in ''As You Like It''. Later he appeared in productions of ''Charley's Aunt'' and ''A Woman of No Importance''. In 1894 appeared in several plays with Arnold Daly at the Drury Lane Theatre. Laura La Plante (born Laura Laplante; November 1, 1904 – October 14, 1996) was an American film actress, whose more notable performances were in the silent era. Early life La Plante was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 1, 1904, the daughter of William A. Laplante and Elizabeth E. Turk. Her father taught dancing. After her parents were divorced, her mother took Laura and her sister Violet to live in San Diego, California. In her teens, Laura stayed with a cousin, Mary MacMahon, in Hollywood during a summer vacation and replied to a newspaper ad asking for children for moving pictures, and she was hired. Silent film career La Plante made her acting debut at age 15, and in 1923 she was named as one of that year's WAMPAS Baby Stars. During the 1920s, she appeared in more than 60 films. The Klaw Theatre was a Broadway theatre located at 251–257 West 45th Street (now a part of George Abbott Way) in Midtown Manhattan. Built in 1921 for producer Marcus Klaw, the theater was designed by Eugene De Rosa. In cultures where monogamy is mandated, bigamy is the act of entering into a marriage with one person while still legally married to another. A legal or de facto separation of the couple does not alter their marital status as married persons.
