Meet The Simon Sisters
''Meet the Simon Sisters'' is the debut studio album by the Simon Sisters, released by Kapp Records, in 1964. Consisting of sisters Lucy Simon and Carly Simon, the duo had a minor hit with "Winkin’, Blinkin’ And Nod", a children's poem by Eugene Field that Lucy had put to music. The single reached No. 73 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. They quickly followed the album up with ''Cuddlebug'', which was recorded during the same sessions as ''Meet the Simon Sisters''. Releases In 2006, Hip-O-Select re-released the album, along with ''Cuddlebug'', as the single disc ''" Winkin', Blinkin' and Nod: The Kapp Recordings"''. Carly provided liner notes in the albums 12-page booklet. The album was available exclusively through Hip-O-Records.com and Amazon.com. Only 4,000 copies were printed, and it is now out of print. The Simon Sisters
The Simon Sisters was a folk music sister duo consisting of Carly Simon and Lucy Simon. They released three albums between 1964–1969 before Lucy left to get married. Lucy had a minor solo career and released two albums in the 1970s before finding greater success writing music for Broadway plays, including a Tony Award nomination for her music on The Secret Garden in 1991. Beginning in 1971, Carly began a very successful solo career, releasing over 23 studio albums that produced multiple Top 40 hits across the U.S. ''Billboard'' charts, as well as winning two Grammy Awards (from 14 nominations), a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award, among numerous other competitive and honorary accolades. "À la claire fontaine" (; ) is a traditional French song, which has also become very popular in Belgium and in Canada, particularly in Quebec and the Maritime provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod" is a popular poem for children written by American writer and poet Eugene Field and published on March 9, 1889. The original title was "Dutch Lullaby". The poem is a fantasy bed-time story about three children sailing and fishing among the stars from a boat which is a wooden shoe. The names suggest a sleepy child's blinking eyes and nodding head. Joe Greene (American Songwriter)
Joseph Perkins Greene (April 19, 1915 – June 16, 1986) was an American songwriter, best known for " Across the Alley from the Alamo", " And Her Tears Flowed Like Wine" (1944), and "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Cryin'" (1946). Life Greene became a singer and actor. As a young man Greene was associated with songwriter Hoagy Carmichael. He is said to have discovered Ernie Andrews in 1945 and produced his first sessions. He wrote Andrews' biggest hit, the song "Soothe Me". Greene's lyrics were stylish and often had strong emotional impact. The idea for "Across the Alley from the Alamo" came to Greene in 1946 in the middle of the night. Delia Green (1886 – December 25, 1900) was a 14-year-old African-American murder victim who has been identified as the likely inspiration for several well-known traditional American songs, usually known by the titles "Delia" or "Delia's Gone" or "Little Delia."
