Mee Pok Man
''Mee Pok Man'' is a 1995 Singaporean film directed by Eric Khoo. The film is Eric Khoo's debut feature, released under his film production company, Zhao Wei Films, after making award-winning short films for years. It was entered into the 19th Moscow International Film Festival and showed at more than 30 film festivals worldwide, winning the FIPRESCI (The International Federation of Film Critics) Award. The film stars Joe Ng as the male protagonist Johnny, a Chinese seller of noodles (mee pok), and Michelle Goh, who plays a prostitute. The film was given an "R(A)" rating in Singapore, restricting the movie audience to adults aged 21 and above, but after the change in film ratings in 2004, it was re-rated "M18" (aged 18 and above). The film's story was inspired by a story by Damien Sin, "One Last Cold Kiss", that appeared in ''Classic Singapore Horror Stories'': Book 2 (1994). Damien Sin
Damien Sin (1965 – 2011), born Foong Yu Lei, was a Singaporean author, poet and musician. He has written several bestselling books published by the Angsana Books imprint of publisher Flame Of The Forest Publishing. Sin died in 2011. After failing his 'A' Levels, Sin started his career as a karaoke-jockey before he turned to writing erotic stories while he was in detention for a drug offence. He was a member of Russell Lee's team of ghost writers. Sin also wrote the screenplay of the critically acclaimed film, ''Mee Pok Man'' (1995), which launched director Eric Khoo's career. Its story was based on Sin's short story "One Last Cold Kiss", which appeared in ''Classic Singapore Horror Stories: Book 2'' (1994). Khoo later dedicated his film '' In the Room'' (2015) to Sin. The Projector
The Projector is a Singaporean independent cinema founded in 2014 in Singapore, specializing in arts-house films. It has two locations, including one at the Golden Mile Tower and one at Riverside Point. History The Projector was founded in 2014 by Karen Tan, Sharon Tan and Blaise Trigg-Smith, under their company Pocket Projects. Sharon Tan was the general manager. The venue was originally founded as Golden Theatre in 1973, the biggest cinema at the time in Singapore and Malaysia, with a single hall that sat up to 1,500 people. In 1990s, the venue was split into 3 halls. Eventually in 2014, Golden Theatre retained the largest 1,000-seats hall, while The Projector took over the smaller halls.
