Media In Ottawa–Gatineau
The following media outlets are located in Canada's National Capital Region, serving the cities of Ottawa, Ontario and Gatineau, Quebec. The two cities, which are adjacent and each receive virtually all television and radio stations operating in either city, are considered a single media market. Most of the region's FM and TV stations, regardless of which community they are officially licensed to, transmit from Camp Fortune in the Gatineau Hills. Other TV stations transmit from a tower located in Manotick, in the rural south portion of Ottawa. Ryan Tower, the former transmitter tower at Camp Fortune, was taken down on November 4, 2012 and its services and some antenna elements were transferred to a new, nearby tower. Modern Rock
Modern rock is an umbrella term used to describe rock music that is found on college rock radio stations. Some radio stations use this term to distinguish themselves from classic rock, which is based in 1960s–1980s rock music. CILV-FM (88.5 MHz, ''Live 88.5'') is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Ottawa, Ontario. Owned by Stingray Group, it broadcasts an alternative rock format. Its radio studios and offices are on Antares Drive in Nepean. CILV-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 37,000 watts (90,000 watts maximum). While most Ottawa FM stations have their towers in Gatineau Park, CILV-FM's transmitter is off Old Prescott Road near Spring Hill Road in Greely, Ontario. History The station was licensed by the CRTC in 2005. CILV began testing its signal and streaming online on November 30, and officially signed on the air at Noon on December 26, 2005. CJEU (AM)
CJEU is a Canadian radio station licensed to broadcast a French language children's radio format at AM 1670 in Gatineau, Quebec. The license is held by Fondation Radio-Enfant, a non-profit educational agency. CJEU’s transmitter is located off of Chem des Terres in Musee, Quebec. Fondation Radio-Enfant was originally granted a short-term license, with the call sign CIRC, on 96.5 FM for the duration of the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie in 2002 and in 2003, Fondation Radio-Enfant was also granted to operate at 1250 kHz on the AM dial (formerly used by CBOF), however, due to possible technical issues, the station never went on the air. The 96.5 frequency in Gatineau was later reassigned to CFTX-FM, and Fondation Radio-Enfant was granted a permanent AM license in early 2007 to operate at 1670 kHz.
