This is a list of media in Monroe, Louisiana, Monroe, Louisiana. Television *KEJB (TV), KEJB did not receive a companion channel for a digital television station. Instead, on or before June 12, 2009, which is the end of the digital TV conversion period for full-service stations, KEJB was required to turn off its analog signal and turn on its digital signal (called a "flash-cut"). While a digital signal did go on the air (though it shut down on June 4, 2010, due to equipment failure, the station never filed for either a license to cover or an extension of the construction permit, and it was deleted by the FCC on December 22, 2010. Monroe (historically french: Poste-du-Ouachita) is the eighth-largest city in the U.S. state of Louisiana, and parish seat of Ouachita Parish. With a 2020 census-tabulated population of 47,702, it is the principal city of the Monroe metropolitan statistical area, the second-largest metropolitan area in North Louisiana. Etymology As governor of Louisiana, Esteban Rodríguez Miró had ''Fort Miro'' built in 1791. Fort Miro changed its name to Monroe to commemorate the first arrival of the steamboat ''James Monroe'' in the spring of 1820. The ship's arrival was the single event, in the minds of local residents, that transformed the outpost into a town. Credit for the name is indirectly given to James Monroe of Virginia, the fifth President of the United States, for whom the ship was named.
