WAXY (790 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to South Miami, Florida, with a Spanish language conservative talk format. The station is owned by Audacy, Inc. Its studios are located in Audacy's Miami office on Northwest Second Avenue, and its transmitter is in Everglades National Park. The callsign was formerly used on FM at 105.9, until Jefferson-Pilot acquired the callsign. 105.9 FM is now WBGG-FM and owned by iHeartMedia with a Classic Rock format. WURN (1040 kHz "Actualidad 1040") is a commercial AM radio station Miami, Florida. The station airs a Spanish-language news/talk radio format. WURN is owned by Actualidad Media Group. The weekday schedule is made up of all news blocks along with talk programs in the daytime and sports shows in the evening. Some hours, the station carries the audio from CNN en Español. WURN is powered at 50,000 watts by day, the maximum for commercial AM stations. But because AM 1040 is a clear channel frequency, reserved for Class A WHO Des Moines, WURN must reduce power at night to 5,000 watts, when AM radio waves travel further. WMYM
WMYM is a radio station licensed to Kendall, Florida, serving the Miami metropolitan area as the flagship station of the Spanish-language sports network Unanimo Deportes. WMYM is broadcast on 990 kHz. History WFAB "La Fabulosa" broadcast a Spanish-language format on 990 from 1962 to 1977; the station, however, lost its license due to fraudulent billing practices. The demise of WFAB led to a multi-year fight for the license, ultimately won by Community Broadcasting Company. The unbuilt construction permit was sold to W.R.A. Broadcasting in 1996 and went on air in 1997 was WFBA. (The WFAB call letters had been assigned in the intervening 20 years to a station in Puerto Rico.) The station primarily airs syndicated programming from Fox Sports Radio with some local sports talk and game coverage. Its daytime signal reaches as far north as Ft. Pierce, as far west as Ft. Myers and Naples, and as far south as Cuba. The station has managed to score ratings in the Ft. Myers-Naples radio market despite its transmitter being over 100 miles away.
