MediaTransparency was a project begun in 1999 which monitored the financial ties of conservative think tanks to conservative foundations in the United States. Its database tracked over 50,000 grants awarded since 1985, which total more than US$3.2 billion. It was run by Cursor, Inc. before being acquired by Media Matters for America Media Matters for America (MMfA) is a politically left-leaning 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization and media watchdog group. Media Matters for America (MMfA) is a politically left-leaning 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization and media watchdog group. MMfA was founded in 2004 by journalist and political activist David Brock as a counterweight to the conservative Media Research Center. It is known for its aggressive criticism of conservative journalists and media outlets, including its "War on Fox News".
