Medan Polonia is one of 21 administrative districts (''kecamatan'') in the city of Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The old Polonia Airport was located in this district. This area consists of luxury housing and restaurants near the airport, and shops and houses on the north side. Medan, North Sumatra
Medan (; English: ) is the capital city, capital and largest city of the Indonesian Provinces of Indonesia, province of North Sumatra, as well as a regional hub and financial centre of Sumatra. Kampung Madras
Kampung Madras (Madras Village), formerly known as Kampung Keling ( ta, காலிங் கிராமம்), is the Little India of Medan, Indonesia, and one of the city's significant ethnic enclaves. Kampung Madras encompasses an area of approximately 10 hectares, and hosts a large Indian (mostly Tamils). Now a now part of the Medan Polonia district, Kampung Madras is home to many sporting goods resellers, sari stores, and other shophouses. In the mid-nineteenth century, the colonial Dutch began importing Indian labor to work on Sumatran plantations and to construct roads, trenches, and dykes; today, Sumatra is home to as many as 60,000 people of Indian descent, many of whom reside in Medan. This area was originally called ''Patisah'' ( ta, பெடிசாஹ்), and the name became a district in Medan called ''Petisah''. Gurdwara Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji
A gurdwara (sometimes written as gurudwara) (Gurmukhi: ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ''guradu'ārā'', meaning "Door to the Sikh gurus, Guru") is a place of assembly and place of worship, worship for Sikhs. Sikhs also refer to gurdwaras as ''Gurdwara Sahib''. People from all faiths are welcomed in gurdwaras. Each gurdwara has a ''Darbar Sahib Hall, Darbar Sahib'' where the current and everlasting guru of the Sikhs, the scripture Guru Granth Sahib, is placed on a (an elevated throne) in a prominent central position. Any congregant (sometimes with specialized training, in which case they can be known by the term granthi) may recite, sing, and explain the verses from the Guru Granth Sahib, in the presence of the rest of the congregation.
